Going out tomorrow night in the desert. If any of you have hunted in Nevada during the summer what call sequence do you recommend?

What part of Nevada ? I've always wanted to coyote hunt there. You don't even need a license from what I've heard, true ?

True no license required. I have killed at least 30 yotes here in the past but always in the winter months. It is a 100 every day but at night drops to the 80s. I am going out tomorrow night and I am in the fallon area, which is about a hour from Reno.

Its pretty open country. Here is a picture of Dixie valley from 2009. Love that place! However in the summer it sucks!

I know exactly where you're at. I believe there is a truck stop that I stayed at a few years ago with a little casino/bar. I like Nevada, except for the liar Harry Reid.

post some pics. I have been out 3 times this summer at Capital and did not even hear one peep out of coyote. See plenty of crap on the roads up there. Good Luck

Went out again and all I called in was a jack rabbit

Kept finding fox dens and coyote prints, one more shot at hunting this weekend and hopefully I connect with a desert dog! On a brighter note I have collected 150 lbs of lead while out here. I dig into the hillside with a shovel and sifter. These boys out in Nevada must really hate glass

They shoot every chance they get, there seems to be more broken glass than sand.

Upwind and I went out for one last push before I head back to Whidbey. Started calling with my Primos Catnip call and almost instantly heard some angry coyotes, and a few seconds late 3 of them are running towards us at full speed. All I can assume is the pair ran into lone coyote for them to cause such a ruckus. The pair get to the top of the hill I was on and I barked them to a halt. Wham first one goes down like a truck hit him. I load a new round (thanks upwind...

) put the crosshairs on the yote and pull the trigger, he gets pushed down the hill yelping. The 3rd yote by this time is gone. I knew I hit the 2nd yote but not sure where. I then grab the 22 and go in thick stuff after him, almost instantly I hear growling and the bushes just frieken exploded, he came charging at me and I popped off two rounds striking him and he rolled and went back into the deep stuff. Then upwind took the high country while I waited from a vantage and sure enough the aggressive yote started turning his attention to upwind and broke cover, I was able to put a finishing shot and end his anger. Been a long time since a yote has shown aggression to me, but a very fun and exiciting hunt. Thanks again upwind for all your hospitality and local knowledge of the desert!

Not sure about the license requirement for badgers, but did not see any or sign of any.

I will have to check the regs, but I think you need a license for those guys... Going through a divorce no extra money for such things

When I hunted in Nevada we could not kill the Kit Fox. Dang buggers would be all over us as we called. Had to carry a club to keep from getting bit. It was crazy! In the late 80's January in Nevada was Freakin AWESOME!!! Think my last trip was '89. I hope it's close to the same for you

I called one in last august and he almost ran over my feet. I have to train my eyes to look that low to the ground

We had a Chevy Blazer with an upgun/turret nest for night calling. Those darn Kit Fox would jump up on the truck and try biting your hands while you were calling. Light man had one hand on the light and another on a club trying to keep the fox clear of the caller. Those buggars just lose their dang minds when you bust out a double reed cottontail call.

What is worse: Grouse coming up from under a foot or a fox you didn't see running over your foot? Both scare the boogers out of me

You can hunt kit fox and red fox, but for a 142 bucks

I thought in Nevada you could shoot coyotes with out a license but you had to leave them unless you have a fur bearers license. I may be wrong but I'm sure that's what I had read last year.

Going out again for the last time tonight. I think I have finally nailed the jack rabbit hunting down, they tend to only run about 10 feet in the dark and 300 yards in the light. I also learned they are very thin skinned and when you tube them do not pull to hard or the hide rips in half

I only have to buy the Fur Bearers license if I sell the hide as per the Nevada Game and fish.

Those big Jacks are an amazingly tough bunny! I think the coyotes think twice before tackling one of them

I tried shooting them with Judo points and rubber blunts my first trip. Ended up spending my day chasing bunnies hoping to get my arrows back! Next trip I brought six dozen arrows all with sharp MA-3 broadheads on them...that worked MUCH better
