First thing that came to my mind was that someone made a bench to sit on during hunting season...?  I would rather sit on soft dirt then rocks though so I don't know.

Probably a pet grave.  Seen similar before.  Usually some place that had good memory for the owner.  I know of a few bird dogs that now rest underground in a favorite bird hunting area.
