Elk rubs

When do you think Elk and Deer start sheeding thier velvet? I saw a couple trees marked up, nothing major, but fresh. It was about 5-6 feet up on the tree, so I'm assuming it was an elk.

I had hard horned bulls on my cameras last year in mid august.

If there's deer and elk sign it could be either rubbing. Five to six feet I'd say elk. I found a rub line or two yesterday and they were fresh. The wallow was unused though. Figured it was hot enough. But
maybe they'll wallow after the rut fires up. Some elk are probably hard horned.
