Super Moon 8/10/2014

Super Moon 8/10/2014. Hand held, 400mm telephoto with a 2X extender (800 mm.) ISO 320, f/13, 1/250th. of a second. Canon 7D. Not too bad for a bald, old, senile, fat guy.

Been staring at the moon on and off all night wishing I had a camera good enough to capture it. Great shot!

Thanks guys! :) I am so blessed that the stroke I suffered a year and a half ago didn't take the steadiness out of my hands. :)

My Son-in-law came over tonight, I showed him the photo and he wanted to try taking a few shoots to see if he could do as good. I took him out and let him try. :) His shots we all blurry and out of focus. :) I then showed him up by taking the camera and taking 3 good shots. :)

Then I mounted my 1.4 extender to the mix and let him try. He gave up because he couldn't hold it steady and it was making him dizzy. :) I took 4 shots hand held that turned out every bit as good as the ones without the 1.4X extender. He threw up his hands and admitted defeat! :) :) :D The old guy whooped him again! :D

Blue Moon, you've got me singing the blues, without a love of my own..........

Messing around with a photo of tonight's Super Moon (8/10/14).
This is a Hand held shot, 400 mm lens, a 1.4X extender, and a 2X extender stacked together. The exposure was ISO 640, f/18, 1/400 th. of a second, with my Canon 7D camera.

400(mm lens) X 1.4 (extender) X 2 (2nd. extender) x 1.6 (camera crop factor) + 1,792 mm lens. :)

I just Had to mess with the photo by shooting with a white balance for Florescent lights an then adding a lot of blue into the photo in Lightroom. ;) :) :D That way I could do the Blue Moon song. ;) :) :D

Not too bad of a photo for that much magnification. Especially for a man that had a stroke a year and a half ago. :)

Was sure bright. Very glad for the super moon on 8/10 during my early morning run on the Columbia. I was able to see a large log floating in my path in time to take evasive maneuvers!! That thing would have hurt.

 Great pic of the moon!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Looking good GR.   Kids wanted me to nail it last night because it looked like a giant pumpkin.   I told them to just enjoy it. :chuckle:

KF, you can get into a very capable used DLSR system for $200-300. Getting invested into digital photography doesn't have to be like hunting.
