the wingworks looks awesome,But! expensive for my budget..I bought a browning it should be here in a few days..If I could walk the distance I used to, I think the wingworks would be my choice its a fine looking and practical vest..Thanks a lot guys

Browning, just felt like it was built with heavy and well made materials for the cost. sportsman's warehouse and I think cabela's sells them for around $60.

The Cabelas vest I have is way to heavy just empty. Then you add water and shells and birds it then weighs a ton.

did mother's go out of business?  i remember seeing them at sportsmans warehouse a few years ago, but i haven't seen any recently.

i've got a probably 30 year old boyt canvas bird vest that i picked up for 5 bucks at value village.  beats the heck out of the cabelas upland vest i have(that thing seems like it weighs 10lbs).

SINCE WRITING THIS BLOG POST, I LEARNED THAT MOTHER IS CLOSING THEIR DOORS! Marty at Mother basically invented the pack-style upland vest that has been copied and modified by several others now, so its sad to see them leave the business.

Mothers was the best. Marty closed it down years back. Llbean has a near copy and is on their second generation. It is called their technical vest and is great for ALL day chuckar hunts. Holds a blader and plenty of room for lunch, shells, whiskey, cigars, camera, cell, you name it!  I have several mothertech vests and one Llbean. Great stuff!

If you are willing to spend some money you can get a vest made in America by Americans and the vest may very well last a decade.  Wingworks.

I've had one for about five years. Stock it's too much for short excursions, but you can strip off the bottle holders and they they sell slimmed down pockets that you can replace the bigger ones with. Very tough vest that makes carrying weighty items like water bottles easy.

They aren't cheap, but when bought with the right accessories it will be the last vest you need for some years...in my opinion.

I use a Mothers strap type hydration vest. You can't get them anymore which is a shame.

Mine is an older woolrich strap vest.  It is very comfortable and cool. It is gotta be 7 years old. Tried to find one of the same to replace it but nowhere to be found.  It is marginal for legal as far as orange goes so I had a panel sewn on the back of it so Mr. Gamey has nothing to call me on. 

Looks like LL Bean has the next best thing to my woolrich.  Wish they still made them!

I bought a Cabelas Upland Pro Vest last fall. I ordered a CamelBak to fit in it this summer and am excited for the upcoming season.
