Just reading through the posts above.

The first layer or two of rope on the winch is the rated pulling capacity. So the more rope you pull off the winch the better pulling capacity. So it's actually opposite of what huntandjeep said.

HuntandFish is exactly right. However, there will also be a slower pull.

i know the thread is a little old but i would go with that little thing on the trailer and get a bigger winch, i have an m8000 on my samurai, and had one on my old toyota and it worked great when i was sunk down to my axles with not a bit of rubber touching mud/clay
