Unscientific Game Cam tests.
« on: December 08, 2008, 09:07:51 PM »

The cams were not completely level nor were they aimed at the exact same location. Everything was very generalized and kind of hurried. All use SD type cards. The pics were taken from about 5 paces or aprox 15 feet. The pics have been reduced to get as close to the parameters below for fast loading.

This GameSpy is a 4 mega pixel infrared camera that uses 6 D batteries. This one I bought in the bargain cave at Cabela’s as refurbished and I will not do that again. You buy, you own. No returns. This one was nearly $160.00 and the laser for aiming doesn’t work. The battery/SD card compartment is a pain in the butt to get in and out of. There are two thumbscrews to the main door and another to access the battery area. The card is very hard to remove if you have fingers larger then a child.
From the box:
Rapid Response Time
150 Day Battery Life
Captures Moon Phase and Temperature
50 ft. Infrared Flash
Captures Day and Night Video Clips
32 Mgs Internal Memory

Moultrie DGW-100
I paid $100.00 for this 1.3 mega pixel cam a couple years ago and never really used it. The battery life was horrible with brand name lantern batteries. My father has used these cams with rechargeable batteries and can sometimes get a couple weeks out of a charge. The battery is easy to access and change as well as the SD card.

Cuddeback Capture IR
I just bought this at Cabela’s for $229.00 and have yet to use it. Actually, after these tests I may take it back. The infrared seems to work too well at close distances and not well enough beyond 15 feet with no real “sweet spot”.  It takes pics at 1.3 mega pixels at night and 5 mega pixels during the day. I have not tried it in the daytime yet. This cam uses 4 D batteries and they are easy to install. The SD card is easy to access as well.
From the box: Super Simple Setup
Hair Trigger
25 ft range
Extra Long Battery Life
Faster Recovery Time
Weatherproof Housing
5 Delay Settings

Wildview BubbaCam
Well a cheap toy got me again. This cam was only $50 so I thought I would give it a try. This 1.3 mega pixel cam uses 4 C batteries, which are easy to install, and the SD card is also easy to access.
From the box: Hassle Free Set Up
Wide Angle Coverage
30 ft. auto flash
Test mode
External LCD Image Counter
SD slot
Time/Date Stamping

BTKR I wanna look at that I - 40 next time I see you.  I wanna see what you are talking about with trying to get the card and stuff out.

Did you call the manufacturer and see if they will fix it?

There is no way to fix it. It is more of a design flaw.

Yeah I understood the card thing was a design flaw.

I was actually talking about the laser for aiming.  Did you call the company to see if they would fix it?  I didn't make myself clear in my previous post.

If you don't already have it out I am curious to see how hard the card would be to get out for me.  Since I have some what smaller hands.   :)

No, not worth the money to send it in.

Thats a real good review Willy! Have you thought about putting together a camera yourself? I think it might be the way to go?

I think there is more that I could do but I am too busy right now. I am thinking about making my own, but again, just too busy right now.
