I'm interested, however the lack of comments seems like it may be a small group. Do you hunt private or public land?

I dont think it will be to bad. Most of us just have the few that we like to hunt with. However, througout the year you will see open seat threads, and I always make it a habit to hunt with new members every year. As season nears you will be hearing from more. Bowhunter, I hunt down that way a few times a year and you are more than welcome to come along. Preperation is the key to success, so dont forget to work on your calling and scouting.

Getting to know other duck hunters is difficult. most dont want to give away thier spot... The Ill show you mine if you show yours first is kind of the mantra.

I think you may get somewhere if you have something to offer besides a shotgun and bag of deeks.
The combos ive seen work are some deviation of...
2 guys that have the same resources and dont know squat.
a guy with a boat and a guy with a dog
A guy with a dog and a guy that can call, and knows when to shutup.
A guy that knows the public land but cant call or have a dog.

Not really what your looking for but seems to be the way it works.

Welcome to the ever exciting sport of duck hunting, on the internet...  lol.

Yeah, like these guys said, you may get better luck hoping to hook up with guys closer to, or even during season.
I'd be more than happy to show you a few things... but like you, I'm a 3rd wheel.
I have no baot, and am an average caller. But I too am always looking for new hunting partners.
Hit me up come season.

Jimbo: "That's right, Stanley. Animals are much easier to shoot in the morning."

The main thing I have found out is just having a few friends that can be trusted and be trusted yourself.  Didn't know during the time in my younger days having more time to scout and who I thought was my friend had more decoys than me.  As time went on I had less time to scout and hunt but could get better equipment only to be thrown to the gutter with no invites or returned calls.   Then my own brother would even break away to take his friends if the hunting was hot.  So even family can be hard because they can use the selfish card like my brother would use on me to find out where the hunting was hot again after the other spots got cold. But after about two times of that I said if your not all in with me then your out because that is selfish how you have been hunting.

The lessons I have learned is not to worry about you scratch my back and I scratch yours because the majority of the time you will get burned in the end.  It's funny to say but hunting partners is like a marriage because they know your secrets and don't want them to open that mouth to others and practice what you expect.
Don't read my post if facts hurt your feeling.

I'm game too. 27 years old, just got a boat and a young dog I am training currently. This will be her first year so no promises on how good she will do.

I tried this back in the day and the guys I took to a few of my spots, ended up hunting it so often.  Next thing I new their friends were hunting it and it became a 3 am or earlier show just to get to that spot.  The new guys always want to learn, but many aren't into doing all the foot work that comes with it.  Easier to learn someone else's honey hole than locate their own.
I learned if I wanted to keep waterfowl hunting, I would continue to do the work to find the spots and tell no one.

my  :twocents:

I've taken a handful of guys out that I've met off of various forums - I'm not doing that anymore; I've not been terribly burned, but lots of the usual stuff like taking their buddies to that spot (the buddies who "never hunt except with them so it's ok"), hunting it every weekend thereafter, etc., etc. Luckily I've been paranoid enough not to take new guys anywhere good and that I couldn't keep an eye on them after  8)

The guys I've actually met out in the field have always worked out better in terms of hunting together. So my advice to you would be don't load up to quickly at the ramp, or in the parking lot, strike up a conversation; see where it goes.

I would have to agree with this.  Usually the guys that are out there every week, putting in the time, know where to set up and we have teamed up a few time to get after the birds.  Probably not the guys that are going to cork you or set up in your back pocket for the most part.
