Well,
I had a short high hunt this year:
My hunting partner scored last minute tickets to the hawks game on Sunday!! Good news and bad news...
We ended up hunting two full days and capped it off with a trip to century link!
Learned a couple of lessons this year:
1) keep looking: we didn't see ANY tracks, droppings etc in three bowls that we were hunting. We tried everything. Finally, on a whim,we decided to take a hike down from our 6500 ft elevation to 5500 ft. We jumped a big bodied shooter (looked to be a 4pt). Searched for him all day and never caught up to him. Saw a ton of tracks just 500-1000 ft lower from where we were hunting.
2) more time needed: while I've spent some time in this area hiking and hunting, 2 day high hunts just won't cut it for me anymore...with densities being pretty low in my unit, I need to give myself at least 4 days to find, pattern and stalk deer up there.
Looking forward to the general season and may take a crack at hunting my high hunt unit for general season...
