Mudflow Help
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:39:34 PM »
A buddy of mine's, 13 year old son drew one of the youth rifle mudflow tags. What are the best ways to access that unit? Thanks in advance...

The 3100 is open for public acces to the northside of the flow if you don't have a weyco permit you are limited to the flow itself or you can go up to the 3000 and access the ridges. PM me for more info.

My boy has this tag also (antlerless). I know that not many cows are on the mud flow. I fished with a guy last week and his mom ad the tag but couldn't find a cow.

There should be a ton of elk on the mudflow.  Hard to believe from what I have seen in the past.  Tuff to find good spots to glass it though.

I hear a number of elk have been shot by the game dept due to hoof rot. Not sure I believe but could effect your hunt. Good luck.

The fact that WDFW has been culling animals who are suffering from hoof rot is not just a rumor. They published it several months back, right after special permit results were posted. It should still be no problem filling a cow tag down there though.

Pretty sure it hasn't happened yet. But it is being considered.  Haven't heard of a single report of it actually being verified!

The Weyerhaeuser security guy that I bumped into on the 3100 line on Monday stated that WDFW had already began culling animals.  I don't know why he would make a statement like that if it wasn't true.
