Nooksack Bull tag
« on: September 20, 2014, 12:43:19 PM »
I have been putting my Grandfather in law, in for the Rifle draw for years. He finally drew this year. Nooksack Rifle here We come.
I have never hunted the unit and was depending on help from a man that has spent tons of time up there. Unfortunately He is in the process of moving out of state and I will not be able to depend on his help, (just found out today He was relocating).
I know two people with Muzzleloader bull tags so that should help.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. If you have knowledge of this unit and have time I would really appreciate any information you could pm me.
Thank You very much in advance,
John

Did you go to the meeting the WDFW has for this tag? If not contact the bio for that area and see if you can get a key to SP land still.

He (89 year old Grandfather), went to the meeting by himself. The invitation said permit holder only, do to lack of seating.
He has quite a bit of information on timber company land. I have quite a bit of information from a couple of years ago. I'm sure it will be fine.
I usually do all of the scouting for his hunts, but I was lucky enough (after applying for 10 to 15 years)  to draw three tags, (two out of state) of course all in one year. I have been scouting and have been working all the hours I can before the hunts and I was depending on the knowledge of My friend that is now relocating.
I just want to be prepared. We will be up there a few days before season and do some scouting.
Thank You,
John

If he's not very mobile you may be better off knocking on doors in the valley. Lots of good bulls and some real dandy's down there. My buddy's wife opted to hunt SP land last year and were into bulls up high. She took a nice bull the first day 13 miles back off the main line. Either way he'll have a good hunt .

Excellent! Post photos when you can. My buddy has this tag as well. The westside governor tag holder just killed a 360" out of this herd. There's some dandies!

There are a lot of landowners who are experiencing elk damage in the Skagit Valley.  Lots of nice bulls and eager landowners who want them off their property. I would contact WDFW for a list of landowners experiencing elk damage.  They would welcome you with open arms likely.  Especially in the Day Creek area.  The local biologist resigned for that area so they are in the process of rehiring.  I would contact the Mill Creek regional office for a list of potential contacts.

 :yeah:
You should have the biologist number in your packet from the meeting.  His name is Cole (private lands bio) and there should be ample opportunity at good bulls.  Good luck and have fun.
