I read this and am trying to scratch up the dough for a map to take my daughter on her first hunt (several PMd me with valuable info as well).

Regarding value, I went to AK once for a bit of red fishing on the Kenai.  We fished for two days and caught a couple each per day (10 hrs fishing).  We then went on a guided trip for $150 each and caught 6 each in about 10 minutes.  The guide showed us where to fish (what kind of water, not exact spot), the right tackle to use and the right "method" (if you fish reds in AK you probably have this figured out).  We tipped him $50 each because he also gave us enough tackle for the rest of our trip.

So, we paid $200 each for a guy to give us a 10 minute lesson in something pretty dang obvious to anyone who knows how to do it and $5 in tackle.  On the other side of the coin, we went from novice to expert red fisherman in a morning and had a very successful remainder of our trip (and the next 2 I went on).

In my mind, the value isn't how hard the guy worked, but how much I would have to work to do it without his knowledge or service.

If I paid $300 for a map and a quick chat and it got my daughter and I on a decent animal our first time in an area, that would be well worth the money.

I would change one thing on that map.  The southeast corner should say, "Doesn't matter.  You will never get drawn!"

Thats a great point. I'll put that on my revised map later this year. Might as well just not even put in for those SE units.

I'm starting to look positively about starting a map business of my own.  I bet there are a bunch of internet geeks out there that would pay $500 for a Guide to Washington's "Alien BigFoot" map  :IBCOOL:

Just to pile on here...

I have a friend from the westside who wanted to take his kids to the NE corner for deer. Too far to scout so he bought a map from Dale.
They tagged out and had a great time. Nothing but good stuff.

How about a photo of the map in question??
not to defend this guy but he was asked to post a pic.
pic was posted, but removed by moderator
No I know was just pointing out that someone did ask him to post it or a pic of his map so the ones downing him for posting the pic would or could get the message.
I agree though he should not have was just saying.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

People who haven't spent time in the NE couldn't find a mule deer hotspot if it was one ridge over.  This guy gets a map with areas marked and thinks he got screwed.  Sign me up to get SCAMMED.

19 years ago I was in my yard shooting my bow, a guy driving by stopped and said you are a bow hunter. He started telling me about all his record book bucks and that I should stop by to see them. He said If I were you I'd be at ******* MTN at daylight on the opener. he then drove away. I ran in the house and wrote down what he had just told me and my scouting began. Best tid bit of info I have ever received. Big bucks now decorate my walls. Knowing what I have gained from that guy I feel like I owe him 300
