legal oregon loads?
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:52:30 PM »
Thought I would see if there are any Oregon muzzie guys on here that can tell me what muzzie bullets are legal to shoot down there. I was recommended to use thompson center maxi balls but cant find any local or online. I will check out the regs just thought I would start here. And it is a 50 cal for a deer hunt. Tks nwhunter

■ Only conical bullets made of lead, lead alloy, or federally-approved nontoxic shot material, with a length that does not exceed twice
the diameter, and round balls made of lead, lead alloy, or federally-approved nontoxic material, used with cloth, paper or felt patches are allowed during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only. It is illegal to hunt with non-lead bullets except for those made of federally-approved nontoxic shot
material, jacketed bullets, sabots, and bullets with plastic or synthetic tips or bases during muzzleloader only seasons and 600 series
hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only.

Lead conicals are really the only option. Cabelas online has the Hornady great plains, Thompson center maxi hunter and maxi ball. I shoot the White bullet but they quit making them. Make sure you have no fiber optics on your sights.

What tag do you have? I've hunted the Silvies muzzie deer and the East grant elk. I wish Oregon would expand their muzzle hunts to more units.
