Took the dogs out on Sunday and Monday. Dogs pointed 2 different coveys, but I've never seen birds flush so far out. Might need to switch to full chokes.

we had one covey break at nearly 100 yards and i was above them. Not like they could smell us. Juvenile birds!  Good sign!

Been warm here so I'm limiting my hunts to early morning. Haven't seen any snakes but it's warm enough for them to be out.

We saw a small northern pacific in a coley, about 16".  We let him live.  Agree with Der NACHESMan, we will hit it again next week!

My setter pointed at least five different coveys Saturday, two of which held about 30 birds, but they were flushing really wild.  Seems odd considering they haven't been hunted yet.   I only bothered shooting a couple times, and the closest shot I had was about 40 yds.  Very tough hunting.  Glad to hear it wasn't just me.  Heartened by the number of birds though.  Bodes well for the rest of the season.

The Wife and I had some fun with a couple of nice coveys on Sunday. Walter, the English Springer Spaniel made a memorable find on a downed Hun in the sagebrush. Too hot for any extended hunting past mid-morning. We'll wait for a cool down for the next hunt.

Would that be Walter the wonder dog??

Thanks...I spend quite a few days in Selah. I will be in your town soon. Perhaps I can buy you a beer. Love the photos!

I met your wife, Walter and you earlier this year walking out of mica.  I was bow hunting for deer.  Might have been the opener

Let me know when you are coming through.  I have a schedule from hell but you never know.  I may also be on the road.  It is about that time to chase monster muleys
