need a breeder
« on: October 04, 2014, 10:27:23 AM »
I have a 10 year old chocolate stud that is about to be retired. Akc pure with field champ bloodlines on both sides. We have family tree of 10 generations. Honestly I'm not interested in money I would just ask a pup in return.

these dogs went for $1200-1600 each when I got mine. Any help would be sweet!

No titles, he's just been my bird dog and companion. Would have done more with him in his younger years but deployment doesn't really comply with that kind of schedule

Do you mind sharing who he is out of? There were very few Field Champion chocolates 10 years ago.

What kind of champions on the pedigree?

CH or FC?

HUGE difference

Also- without EIC, CNM, exhocardiogram, hips, elbows and PRA your stud isn't worth the cost of raising a pup. If you have a true field chic from 10+ years ago it's probably likely to have some undesireable health issues in the pedigree common to some popular chocolates of the time. Breeding it would potentially make some pups with a real high chance of being unsound

 :yeah:

I have a female out of a Chocolate FC/AFC with Barracuda lines. She has her hips (good)/elbows(normal) Eyes: Clear. EIC and CNM Clear and I'm looking to breed her back to Barracuda Blue on the stud dog's Dam side. Finding one has been a little tough.

I have a Chocolate grandson out of Barracuda Blue.  He is still too young for breeding and complete testing.  However his Dame and Sire are both. EIC, CNM, PRA clear "Not Carriers"  I will start running all the test on him this Spring after hunting season when I return to Washington.  If you are interested I will keep you posted.  If he turns out to have any defects SNIP off they come.  but one can only hope.

And breeding a chocolate x chocolate always makes for good conversation.

recessive x recessive

Some people do it. Not many recommend it.

Thank you Bluemoon, I'm wanting to breed to a dog that is proven in the HT/ FT game. My female is black out of Call of the Wild "Drake" and a MH chocolate factored female.

I'm not in it for the color, if I had some choco puppies that's fine but I plan on keeping a good puppy out of the litter regardless of color. From the people I've talked to Cuda was an amazing dog and great competitor. I talked to someone who competed directly with him and his son Ryder (who is the sire of Drake) and said he was an incredible animal. That person was campaigning an Aces High male at the time. I want to continue his line and do a slight line breeding back to him if possible.

Happy, I agree with you. If you're #1 goal is color, you're doing something wrong for the breed... in my very non expert opinion

FC AFC Barracuda Blue- career had only 2 open wins and only 4 amateur wins. Total of 66 points

Son that John Henniger ran for many which you are probably referring to only had one single open win.

FC AFC Way Da Go Call of the Wild is one of two FC AFC dogs Sired by Barracuda in a lot of breedings.

We want to talk about great dogs as comparison, here's a locally owned dog;

FC AFC Creekrobber 29 Open wins, 26 Am wins. 421 all age points.

Happy, your point is well received. Creekrobber is obviously a one in a million type of dog. I didn't know that he was local, that's great.

I guess I should say i'm not planning on producing the litter of the year in the FT world. I'm not trying to create a "creek robber" or "lean mac" either. Creek Robber was bred a lot as well and by in large most of the females he bred to were Lean Mac bitches. That is an unbelievable combo.

I'm on RTF a lot (though I dont usually chime in) and a topic this year has been who the little choco dog "Ammo" should be bred to.

I wonder if you have an opinion on that?

BTW, i'm not comparing my female to Ammo in the least bit. She has a similar pedigree on the top, but none of the same on the bottom.

Thanks for the information Happy and Waldo.  I rely on you Paul when it comes to the retriever world for I will be the first to say I know absolutely nothing about them.  As you know I am a Pointer, Flusher and Poodle type of guy.  I got this young Lab for a Duck dog this year for our outfitting business and he is doing quite well.  I was told when I got him that he was out of good lines and that is where my knowledge stops...
Yours in lots of dead birds this year;

First of all, Cuda (FC AFC CFC CAFC Baracuda Blue MH) was a fantastic dog and I would consider him an asset in any pedigree whether it be a chocolate one or black.

He was the kind of dog that could go run a FT one day and a HT the next and be a house dog in between.

He ran in a very tough circuit at the time and obviously there was plenty of bias against his color and his owner. So could he have gotten more points? Maybe. But 66 pts isn't too shabby.

In his time, he was pretty "clean" genetically. He of course goes back to Snake Eyes Double or Nothin which was a pretty great line to have a dog from.

More Cuda offspring would of done more, except he really was the "amateur" dog. Perhaps not throwing dogs "hard" enough to do well on a lot of pro trucks.

Cuda of course produced Ryder who in turn produced Drake and his brother Roux. Ryder was also out of a NFC "Rascal" bitch. Rascal in turn produced a Canadian Nat'l dog by the name of Chip.  Roux in turn, produced the all time high pt derby dog (regardless of color) AND that dog just won the Canadian National along with I believe its 3 double headers so far this year.

A dog by Drake, I would be concerned on SIZE so would keep that in mind. Along with all the other NORMAL health issues that we can test for now that we weren't able to test for back then.

Off the top of my head, looking for a Cuda bitch line, the dog that jumps out at me would obviously be Pirate who is out of a titled FC cuda bitch.  FC AFC Land Ahoy is a chocolate factored black owned by Gary Zellner in Scio Or.

Let me know if I can help you in anything else.

To the original poster, when you have a stud dog with no titles and no clearances, its unlikely MOST people will be interested in breeding to your boy.

I'd get the health clearances and then look within your "hunting circle" to see if any one might be interested.
