National Park entry fee increase??

could be ugly.  Where will all the folks go when it is too costly to crowd into the national park?  Likely DNR and National Forest, and have that user group increase at the same time the hunter user group is increasing on those lands due to the pay to play tree farms.

Maybe not.  People go to NP's because of the very fact that they are NP's.  DNR, and to some lesser degree USFS land lack the visitor amenities that attract people to NP's.  It's unlikely that most people would choose to go to a DNR clear cut in leu of Paradise for views and activities

Yeah, there's those that only know 'Park' and would go at much higher the proposed price.  I don't think they'll be deterred much.  But seems there's also a group that when entertaining visitors or taking their weekend warrior clubs out, might look for the better deal and head to other lands.  I've seen DNR campgrounds that are just as nice as any National Park campground.  The local/semi-local crowd (the retired greenie that hikes twice a week with fluffy) is usually the most vocal, pot-stirrer to the USFS, county, etcetera anyways.  And upon seeing more activity likely to call for use restrictions from NIMBY.  Just my thought anyways.

Im unconcerned with the increases. If you want "Services" you should pay for them. $20 for a dedicated camping spot at a NP is not unreasonable. Will it prevent me from going there? No, but i haven't been in a NP for quite some time and am not really in a hurry to go.

I am fine with it too ...As long as the money goes where it is supposed to...which I HIGHLY DOUBT ..Right now they are scratching for every penny and loving every minute of what they are telling you

If it was only about a camping fee. Seems like you should be able to go for a walk on your own land (public) without coughing up.
I can see a fee for camping or visiting a place that has improvements but a charge for a walk in the woods just seems wrong.  Am I the only one who thinks this way?

HT I agree this is more that just  camping. Should we have to pay to walk in the kings forest? No. Do i wish they spend the $ they were already getting more frugally? Sure.

One of the trends I think its important to point out is that "Camping" in improved campgrounds is the trend. LOTS of people are not as rugged as many of us here. and in order to get a reservation at a USFS or NPS campsite requires applying 6-9 months in advance. How "We" think of nature/camping is very likely different than many others out there.

If individual park's get to increase fees, the NW Forest Pass and Annual Pass will want to follow suit.  But at least that is for developed areas.
