Madden's First Deer and I-594

Please share this everywhere you can.

MADDENS FIRST DEER - A STORY ABOUT I-594

My 3rd cousin, Madden, is a 17 year old young woman, a Senior in high school, and is planning to attend college next year after her graduation.  She has grown up in a family that appreciates hunting and has passed it down over several generations as a hobby and way of sustenance.  As a youth hunter she is not allowed to own firearms herself, but enjoys using her father's firearms along with him in the field.  This year she practiced at home with her father, Bill, and mastered safe operation of his over-under shotgun for the 2014 modern firearm deer season.

When the season arrived, health constraints prevented Bill from taking her out to pursue this activity together.  My dad, "Uncle" Rex, offered to take her out and give her the opportunity to harvest her first deer while expanding her knowledge of the great outdoors, natural food sources, and game processing.  Fortunately, they were successful and Madden has a great experience to hopefully share with others and possibly her own family in the future.  (Not to mention a very nice buck for a first deer!)

Under I-594, this great learning experience would have resulted in a gross misdemeanor for Bill and an unknown punishment for Madden and Rex.  Since a minor cannot own a firearm, they must hunt with the weapon owner, who according to I-594 must be "under direct supervision and control" of the legal gun owner.  Given that the shotgun does not belong to either Rex or Madden, a transfer has occurred under I-594.  Under this proposed initiative, a background check would have been required to transfer ownership to Rex, which could take up to 10 days and cost up to $50 for each transfer.  Unknowingly or accidentally violating this initiative a second time, Bill would face felony charges and lose both his ability to vote and to own firearms.  An accidental illegal transfer could occur as simply as allowing someone else to shoot your firearm in the woods behind your house.

I-594 is not an initiative about background checks, it is an initiative to harass existing gun owners who possess no ill intention, under the misinformed guise of added safety.  Please join responsible gun owners and those who appreciate facts and freedom in voting NO on I-594.

Beautiful buck, congrats to the lady hunter!

Also, thankyou for putting the initiative's restrictions into a real world situation to bring to light the truth behind it. I myself would have been in hotwater this year over this as my nephew used my rifle during the opening weekend while hunting with his Grandfather.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

maybe im interpreting this incorrectly but I believe that this would have been perfectly legal under 594.

Section 3-

(f) The temporary transfer of a firearm (i) between spouses or
domestic partners; (ii) if the temporary transfer occurs, and the
firearm is kept at all times, at an established shooting range
authorized by the governing body of the jurisdiction in which such
range is located; (iii) if the temporary transfer occurs and the
transferee's possession of the firearm is exclusively at a lawful
organized competition involving the use of a firearm, or while
participating in or practicing for a performance by an organized group
that uses firearms as a part of the performance; (iv) to a person who
is under eighteen years of age for lawful hunting, sporting, or
educational purposes while under the direct supervision and control of
a responsible adult who is not prohibited from possessing firearms

Double, the problem arrises when said adult accompanying the minor is not the owner of the firearm that the minor is using.

Other questions arise such as who owns the guns in our household, me or my wife?  If no background checks were done on initial purchase, whose is it?  She earned the money and I spent it....    :o

This thing has so many problems in so many ways.   :bash:

Honestly folks, there should be no debate about I-594; it is ANTI-GUN to the core.  It only burdens law-abiding citizens and will turn many of them into criminals.  If you read I-594 and truly understand what it says, you will realize it is ANTI-GUN and will create a very BAD law.

Please don't try to give I-594 any credibility.  If passed, it will be an extremely BAD law that we will have to fight and deal with for years to come.

Don't VOTE our freedoms away.

Make sure you VOTE NO on I-594.  Get your family, friends and colleague to do the same.

If I-594 passes in Washington, the ANTI-GUN zealots will start pushing the same ANTI-GUN garbage in other states; they may even try to do it Idaho.

STOP the robbery of our freedoms here and now.
