Gunsmith Recommendations

I have a Rem Mod700, .270 and want to have a longer barrel put on and some trigger work done. Does anybody have a recommendation on a gunsmith for this?  Thanks

I was going to suggest Travis but I wasn't sure if they still work on factory actions, or if they only do stuff based on custom actions.  Either way, RBros builds great stuff.

You may want to check with Benchmark barrels (http://www.benchmark-barrels.com/Benchmark_Barrels/Benchmark_Barrels_Home.html) also.  They can chamber and rebarrel your rifle, too.

Finding a good gunsmith to rebarrel your Rem 700 shouldn't be to difficult but here are a couple things to think about.  Narrow your list down to a couple two or three then contact them and see which one YOU feel fits your personality and wants the best.  Make a list of things you want to know about first, though.  Ask the "smith" if he already has the reamer in whatever chambering you're wanting or not.  Some smiths incorporate reamer cost into their "chambering" fee while others may have a cheaper chambering fee but charge a usage, rental, or even reamer purchase fee.  I always recommend people ask lots of questions and have them break the cost all out for you before you say yes.  That way you know exactly what the cost is before you enter into any agreement.  None of it is any big deal but if this is the first time you've had a gun rebarreled, I'd ask around on this forum what you should expect and maybe even what questions you should be asking the gunsmith.  If you've already been through this process before, well, then you already know.

What are your expectations. ...that's where you start. If you are looking for a moa gun vs a .25 moa gun you have many more options.  I build my own stuff and I dial into the last thenths,  but it takes time, sometimes lots of time.  I would have to be able to charge for the time to keep the doors open, as does anyone else.  I know that the difference may not make a ton at the target,  but it won't hurt......and its a one time deal. If you find a Smith that will charge you a but more, but you know that he won't skip a step to save a buck.....that would be my choice. I bet you have some excellent builders around the area that spent some years spinning parts at big b.
