Bobcat Instead
«
on:
October 28, 2014, 06:29:42 AM »
Heading back to the truck after a morning of deer hunting I round a corner on my bike a catch a glimpse of a bobcat running up the road. I stop the bike, grab my rifle and walk around the corner. Sure enough there sits a beautiful bobcat up a 30 ft bluff behind a little scrub alder. She was just checking me out without a fear in the world. After moving around I finally found a clean shot through the branches and dropped her. Unfortunately my 30-30 provided a pretty good size exit wound in the middle of her back but hopefully the taxi can fix it up. Assuming he can I think I'm going to get a full mount. She weighed in a 18lbs.

Never know why someone would shoot one of these pretty kitties.

They are pretty looking cats! Pretty good at knocking down the bird/rabbit populations too, even go after deer especially the fawns. Unless there is adequate competition (mainly coyotes but fox too..) in the food chain of the area their population has to be kept in check too

I look at this as a once in lifetime type deal, if I see one tomorrow it'll walk. I have caught glimpses of them but never had a shot. This time I did and this animal will be forever immortalized hanging on my wall.
They are pretty animals but they do their fair share of damage to the grouse population and certainly are capable of taking down a fawn. Heck there isn't even a bag limit on bobcats so they clearly aren't endangered animals, just because we don't see many doesn't mean there aren't more then enough out there.
Got the hide sealed by the wildlife biologist and dropped it off at the taxi. He says the exit wound won't be a problem so hopefully I'll have a bobcat full mount next Summer. Once I get it back I'll post up an update.

Some hold the same opinion of coyotes. I've met them, especially native American people.
That's a pretty kitty. Nice work. Wouldn't mind bagging one just to say i did. They are not rare, they are just fast and sneaky.
