Cows on the Mudflow?

I have three friends who are hunting hard for cows on the Mudflow, but all they can find are bulls down on the flats. Anyone know where they may find the cows this time of year. I guess the fog has been a big problem there but it is finally starting to lift. I'm giving them a hard time, because they were all planning to be back home and sleeping in by now.

There are no cows that unit

They are there.  There is an elk escapement area that is part of the flow that closes in October, but if they havent seen the posted signs they are probably ok.

We found about 12 of them two weeks ago during the Disabled Cow hunt. there are still 11 of them in that bunch. I drew the cow Modern a couple years ago. Hunted the timber on the way down to the bottom. Found them there too. I think there are few that hunt it like a pressured road hunted area and they bust down there in the pitch black of night only to bump them across the river. If folks would realize in a under pressured area the elk don't always leave unless forced. We sat in a spot where right at dark the herd boiled out of the timber like being shot out of a cannon, they felt completely safe.

Had the archery tag 5 years ago . The flat are full of bulls found most of the cows on the tootle side up high also hunt the side hills off the 3100 line. Good luck.

One of the other hunters saw one lone cow out in the flats. this bunch came out of the Timber SE of the observatory. There's a meadow just inside the East boundary. For walk in that would be an epic pack especially once you hit that hill. Good gravy it took about three days to recover from that. luckily Dad's was a Disabled tag so we were allowed to drive in. If I remember correctly...that hill is about a mile and some change.  Some of it really steep.

2 miles. hit the odometer on it this year, that and at least 1000' elevation I'd say. We shot my cow( walk in) About 200 yds above the bridge at 1pm. We got her to the truck about 10:45 that night. Dad started whittling on it while I hiked up and grabbed the deer cart, quartered and boned out the rib meat. One helluva a haul out of there. But found a trick, at the last bend before you head down the steep, .5 miles behind the gate. you see a clearing to the North....that's the highway. So you guys hauling one up out of there, head for that clearing, there's a short spur road heading to the west, it goes right out to the cut of the highway. It'll save you a little packing at least.

They finally ran into one on the flats a few days ago.  Said it was close to a five mile pack out.

Nice. It is a fun hunt, but boy the pack is brutal. Legs are wobbly for a few days after. Bone it out throw it on your back and start eating it while walking. Helps to lighten the load
