Helped my brother get a 4x5 out of the southern side of the unit.  Only branched bull we saw. Not one person we talked to had even seen an elk. I'm sure its a great tag to have during archery but not impressed with the November hunt.  The bull still has velvet on one side as did the other small bulls we saw.

Grandpa got a spike today and we saw another branched bull in the back of a truck on the way out.  This was the first day we hunted and we were not going to be picky.  Few people we talked to hadn't seen much all week, so I feel lucky we got it done in one day.

After walking many miles and braving near Monsoon conditions I was able to connect with this little 4x5.   He was rubber horned on his right side and still had quit a bit of velvet hanging.  Witnessed this on a few other bulls too. Saw a few bigger ones but was never able to get it done.  The best part was being able to experience this with my wife.

I got a little 4 pt down there that had the same problem; soft horn and velvet on one side that was on the opposite side of a rear leg with hoofrot. I'm glad I got to put him out of his misery.

We ended up with tag soup on this one I know there are big Bulls in this unit and we did see one but unfortunately my son who drew the tag is in college so could only hunt the weekends. On opening day we saw 2 decent Bulls and one really nice bull but of course they were located at the top of the mountain in the 25 foot tall nobles so getting a shot is rough hunting the weekends. We ended up seeing those 3 animals on Saturday and nothing on Sunday so we decided we would have more fun hunting our Dayton deer tag. Sounds like this tag was good for the archery and muzzle loader guys but from what I saw it was not so good for the rifle guys. I have seen a few decent Bulls posted during the other seasons but mostly small rag horns that had hoof rot.

Saw your bull and spoke to your wife a bit while you guys were at Drews in Toutle.   We were in the blue chev pickup next to you!
Good work ! we got nothing.
