Replacing mag tube on Benelli Nova 12 gauge?
« on: November 11, 2014, 07:57:28 PM »

Hi,

Well, I think I have learned a rather hard lesson.  This Benelli Nova was my first firearm and has been a trusty companion in the field for the 5 or 6 seasons I have been hunting.

Long story short, the magazine tube is rusty- I never thought to clean that part of the gun truth be told and after taking it apart I noticed there is some rust in there...not super bad, but it is there.

So a two part question--

#1) Is it possible to replace the magazine tube on a Nova if you are not a gunsmith?  Where does one even find the part?  I did a Google search and have not been able to turn up any leads on a mag tube except for magazine extenders which is not applicable here.

#2) Any recommendations on products that help get rid of rust once it is on there?  Is that even possible?  I have it in the garage doused in CLP right now and will let it sit over night but I doubt it will get it all.

 :yike:

Crap!

Thanks for any tips.

- Jg

Well, just in case anyone else runs into this I will post what I found out by calling Benelli.

Basically the mag tube is just glued in there with loctite glue.  The guy said you can heat up the glue and the remove the magazine tube.  They don't recommend doing it yourself because you could end up melting part of your receiver.  He said you could send it into them or have a competent gunsmith do it.

I am thinking I am not going to replace it just yet as I sprayed a bunch of CLP in there and hit it with a brass brush this morning and it isn't too bad.

CLP is pretty good stuff, my brother swears by it.
If the rust seems to be diminishing you may be OK.
