1st buck in a while
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:05:07 AM »
Was hoping to get this gal on some elk this weekend, but we kept running into deer instead. Couple close calls with a little bigger buck and a few smaller ones... but this guy stood still just long enough for her to put a 150 grain 308 right across the top of his heart... Then she drug him 1/2 mile or so down a steep hill to a lower road while I walked 2 miles back to the truck up hill to drive around and get her...

She killed a deer or two way back when with her dad when she was a kid... but this is the first in a while. Anyhow, we will be back up there Wednesday through Sunday hoping to get her into some elk and see if there's a buck that wants me to tag out.

Congrats, looks like it's still cold.  Good luck finding elk.

Great buck!  At least she had the opportunity for a downhill drag-out.

Looks cold indeed?  Where is that?  East or West side?

Definitely Deer Slayer...

Clyde Park huh? You wouldn't happen to have a line on a cow... or bull for that matter, for this gal to put a bullet through? We would LOVE to add some more ballast to the freezer... We will be in the Belts Wednesday afternoon through Sunday....

Thanks all. About to wrap the burger right now. GOt a whopping 58# of clean meat off that little guy. You cannot smell or taste a hint of gameyness... he is an incredible little morsel.

Little buck heading to the freezer... Not my beer of choice, but it worked in a pinch...

All said and done I pulled 57# of pure, trimmed, clean meat off him.

The cabelas 1hp made very short work of 41# of it. The other 16 were packaged as roasts/steaks....

And the killer baked pies while I was cutting and grinding!
