Just a question for you guys.

If I'm going to be crossing any type of pheasant or wildlife area to get to some timber to bow hunt, am I required to wear orange while in the field? I'm trying to check the bird regs but not finding anything.

You only need the orange if you are hunting Pheasants in this case.

Bird watchers are all over state sites with no orange.

As long as the area you are hunting is not open to modern deer or elk you are good to go.

  Where we duck hunt there are pheasants and we don't wear orange, even when we go to jump shoot some of the other little ponds and creeks.

Plenty of goose hunters and coyote hunters on our pheasant site down here.  Never seen a one of them wearing orange.  I've seen them get checked by the gamies and have never seen a ticket given.  So I am thinking it is not required, but I do not know for sure.  The sign at entrance to the site does say, "All hunters must wear Hunters Orange". Doesn't single out pheasant hunters but that seems to go against the state regulations pamphlet.

As an active pheasant hunter I personally would prefer anyone cutting through be wearing some orange.  I know we have unknowingly peppered a few goose hunters (no decoys/no dogs) that were hiding from us in the corn.  Was always upsetting to me, but heck they were hiding from us - not sure what I could have done differently.   I'd consider it a courtesy rule even if it is not required.  You can always lose the hat or small vest when you hit the trees.

Thanks guys, if I can get across the field before daylight or legal shooting hours I feel safe but the return only makes sense to be wearing orange and be seen. Don't really feel like spending turkey day pulling shot out.

Turkey day down here is a mad house.  Every idiot within 50 miles with a permit is running and gunning and not paying attention to crap.  Most dangerous day of the season if you ask me.

Good luck on your deer hunt.  Some of my favorite hunting has happened on Thanksgiving!
