Nope, I wouldn't count on those brow tines being an inch.

For myself that would be a no. I am looking for larger more mature deer (more meat  :chuckle: ). I do have others in my camp that hunt just for meat...legal bucks that is but I believe they too would not shoot due too not being sure of the length of that little brow tine. It might only be 7/8''. They have passed many deer just for that reason.
Just one more day

Some would call that point six inches, but I'd pass.

Make me feel bad about shooting my first whitetail. :chuckle: he was small but made a great shot and was not seeing any deer bigger than two points on the whole trip. Never had shot a whitetail so I took the shot. And to answer the question would he be legal in a three point area it would be yes. Back point looked bigger while he was alive but it was an 1 1/8".
Now the deer in the original pic I'm unsure of so would pass

:yeah: good lookin symetrical set on what appears to be a very young buck, let this one go,It'd be kind of dicey to shoot and then realize that eyegaurd was measured with the wifes tape measure.Whaddya do when it's not an inch?I'm going with the pass vote.

Myself I would pass

If one of my sons were to shoot it, well now that would be high 5's all the way around.  It's all about perspective.

I like to hunt. Shooting babies like that is not hunting, its just killing.
i don't understand your statement. What makes a very tasty legal 3 point a baby, and why do you consider this killing any more than a giant buck. Seems like a lot of people on here no longer hunt for the reason hunting is designed. The question on this thread was is this a three point?  Not is this a big enough buck for you to shoot with you expert hunting skills?

WAY TO SMALL! Let it grow. Give him a season and he will be a basket 4pt.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I call it killing because those very young deer like that haven't been around long enough to learn how to give themselves a fighting chance. It takes zero skill to shoot babies like that.
Well, your wrong.

Relax before you both get into a stupid you know what match. No right or wrong with any definition. Its an opinion, hello McFly. You both starting down this road is what is wrong with many threads. You get it into your heads that your OPINION is all that matters and to hell with the thread regardless of content. Grow up, let it go, move on, or simply shut up.

This is not being said about the deer in original picture.
If it's a definitely legal deer than I think others should not bad mouth someone for participating in the sport and put meat on the dinner table. If you don't want to shoot a legal deer because you have more time and money to put into your sport so be it and good luck getting the trophy your after. But some don't have a lot of time or money which it takes both to get a trophy usually. Or even the right land to hunt. Some secure good private land and are fortunate to have good quality deer to hunt year after year. I personally have lost out on most the land I've ever known because of the closures for timber company lands so while learning new areas I'm still trying to put meat on the dinner table.
Sorry if my "trophy" is offensive to some but I went out to hunt. Hunted hard this year and this was my final outcome to the season. And it tastes good.

You've gotta ask yourself whether or not you could afford the ticket and losing the deer if your guess on the length of that little eye guard is wrong?  I would not shoot, seen too many eye guards like that that look bigger than they really measure out to be.

Meat in the freezer! I love the taste of venison and tag soup sucked last year. This guy is currently in my freezer and tastes delicious.

Congrats. That's the way to do it. Waiting on a bigger deer doesn't put meat in the freezer, and we don't all have the best access to land. I shot a doe while hunting in ID this year for that very reason.

There is something just indescribably painful about being stuck behind a prius on the interstate.

Unless the buck would let me hop on it's back and measure that eye guard before pulling the trigger, I would definitely pass on that particular buck.  I have no problems shooting a small buck (they usually taste great), I just don't see any way I could be 100% certain that point is legal while in the field.
