late archery in Dayton
« on: December 05, 2014, 07:20:07 PM »
does anyone have any information on hunting 1010 or 163 late archery.  My feeling is its primarily a damage hunt and encompasses mostly private land.

thanks for the reply,

I have seen these types of hunts, tearing up crops but cant get permission unless you know them. just was hoping to extend my season a little since I wasn't able to spend much time earlier.

I did that a couple years ago and yes, you pretty much need to find a landowner for permission. Very very little public land let alone with elk on it.

All private locals only hunt.

I hunt in Dayton. There is a lot of public land there, non of which will have any Elk on it this time of year though if im thinking of the same area your talking about. The locals dont like to give permission really... Some are really good people, some just dont want to deal with other. During the early deer season i seen one giant bull down low in the wheat fields and during spring turkey the Elk were all over the place. Now though, they are all in the Blues.

1010 is all private. 163 is not all private. The challenge would be finding the animals on the public land this late in the year.

I know where the 1 big herd is at right now. They are on private land and cattle company land. Employees only! No hunting or access granted.

Ive found a pretty significant amount of private land accessible in that area. Just have to ask the right people. I definitely wouldn't call it an "all private locals only hunt".
