My Nile cow elk
« on: December 07, 2014, 05:43:54 PM »
Happy to have filled my tag in the Nile this past week!  Also first time I got to try out the Primos blood flashlight, as she wasn't bleeding a whole lot this was a huge help in finding her in the thick stuff.  The snow helped a bunch as I'm not sure we would have found her otherwise.  We had her quartered and out on the snow sled by midnight, and now I've got to buy a 2nd freezer.

Congrats on a nice cow elk! That's cool you got one with your bow. With all the people that hunt the Nile it can be interesting getting close for the shot.

Thanks guys!  I butchered/vacuum sealed the backstraps and tenderloin myself, the rest I'm picking up from Lind's Meats on Tuesday.  Had some land jaeger and pepperoni made, etc.  Looking forward to some tasty meals this winter for sure.

Nice ! that's a good excuse for a second freezer. told the wife after she got rid of my old monster and replaced it with a smaller unit (they just don't make em that big anymore) that the next elk I get will be going into a new freezer.

Too funny, I just bought a new, larger freezer from Sears yesterday, 21 cu. ft. to replace the 12 cu. ft. I'm currently using.  The first question out of the salesperson's mouth was "what did you kill?".  The camo hat must have tipped her off. :chuckle:

I even had the guys where we buy our appliances make sure they had an extra on hand of their largest model at the end of season,(of course the wife didn't know of this arrangement) but sadly my tag went into soup instead.
