Cooper ST Maxx reviews

So I have 41,000 miles on my stock 13 4Runner tires with about 8/32 on some and 7/32 on the others. I am thinking about replacing them in the April/May time frame. After one of our other members posted about the Toyo RTs I started to look at hybrid cross AT/MTs. I had the Mickey Thompson ATZs  (on my Tundra) and liked them a lot, but in rocky terrain the edges did chip (albeit I didn't air down).

What I want to know is who is running Cooper St Maxx tires? What are your thoughts about this tire? Mud, snow, wet, dry, ice, etc? I would say 85 to 90% of my time will be spent on pavement unless I can get out more this next year.

I have about 4000 on a set. They ride nice and I like the traction so far. I think I'm getting better mileage than the STTs. I've been to Montana with them and over the pass several times. I was worried they'd be like the the TOYO ATs which I wasn't impressed at all with, but they have a little more aggressive tread and seem to have good traction. I had over 50k on my last set of STTs so I wanted those again but they were on back order and I needed something new for Montana. Discount said I could turn them back in even though I told them I was going to put some miles on them when the STTs come in but I'm thinking about keeping them. They are a tough tire.

I put a set on my 2500HD in October. They were great in the mud and snow of hunting season,but they were brand new so take it for what its worth.

Been great in the rain and are very quiet for as aggressive as they are.

I ran Cooper tires for a lot of years.  Only one set of these though and they were studded up.  I had nothing bad to say about Cooper tires new.  For the first half of the tread life they were as good as anything I've ever run.  Problem I had was with the second half of tread life.  They seem to road harden badly and lose their ability to shed the sharp rocks and grip with the ferocity they did when new.  My last year running them I think I had a half dozen flats.  When one single weekend I blew three tires I decided that was it.  Went to Bridgestone Revo's and have never looked back.  Could probably buy Coopers at half life twice for dang near the price of one set of Revos though

I have around 7000 on a set and I love them so far. My truck sees a lot of dirt roads as well as pavement, no buyers remorse at all. Was always a Toyo /BFG guy but I see myself buying another set of these when the time comes unless they just turn to crap for some reaso.

I run cooper STT's, I like them a lot as they are aggressive off-road, but they don't last very long with my F-350 diesel and doing a lot of heavy hauling and towing. My son has them on an old Toyota and they last twice as long. The ST Maxx's look like they should be a longer lasting tread design. I'm interested in hearing more about them as I have considered going to a less aggressive tire to get more mileage out of them on my F-350.

I've ran through a couple sets of the SST's which I had zero complaints about. Still have a set with 70% tread after 5 winters (3 1/2 months). I've went through a couple sets of the STT's also.  Impressed with the length the lasted. I've never had a flat with a Cooper Tire. I've had a lot of flats with LS tires, primarily anything Wild Country.  My last two sets of tires have been Hercules Trail Digger M/T because of the unbeatable prices I've paid. They've been the best performing tire I've used in the winter on the backroads. I'm needing a new set of summer rubber and I'm going with the  ST Maxx. I've been in a couple rigs with them and they handle great in all applications. One set I know of is going on 35K and they are still in good shape. All these tires have been on Toyotas.

I had two new STT's blow out once within a short time of each other, I think they were just bad ones, I've probably bought 20 or more of them and that was the only time I had troubles. The rest have been tough till worn out. I would assume that most of the cooper traction tires are of similar construction with the variance being in the traction design?

10 ply's with 3 ply side walls, right?

I usually buy 235x85x16 STT's which are load range E a 10 ply rating. I don't know what they put in the sidewall, but they are pretty good tires, I put them through hell, going places lesser tires have blown out regularly in past years. The sage and rocks in Utah will test tires like nothing else.

One time about 15 years ago I tried Big O tires, they were good traction and the warranty was excellent, I could have kept getting new tires forever, but I got tired of having to change flats in remote areas.

Tires of the big rigs sure seem to go quicker with more flats and that's understandable. Load range E all the way for me these days even on Toyotas. That's one reason I think I had all the flats with the Schwab tires because they were all 6 plys. One tire I've seen do very well and I'd definitely run on my fullsize 3/4 ton are the Toyo M55s. Seem to get as good of mileage as I've seen and preform well while being very durable.

The ST Maxx has the Armor Tek3 carcass which I believe is 10 ply. All the St Maxx only come in Load range E. The reviews  I have been reading have said on the highway it is a quiet tire. Another thing I like is the stone ejectors. On the Mickey Thompson  ATZ I swear I would empty out half the driveway once I got out on the road and up to speed.

I had a set on my f150 and really liked them, they were very tough tires, extremely thick sidewalls and they were very heavy. I drive on a lot of rocky roads around Yakima and never got a flat with them. I usually had to run around 55 psi in them because I don't like my tires having very much of a bludge in them. I'd buy them again on my next set.
