Frozen Hummingbird
« on: December 23, 2008, 04:47:44 PM »
Here is a pic that my wife's coworker took of a hummingbird that froze to the bird feeder. :(
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Bet you won't see that again in a lifetime!  I once came across a hen mallard with both her legs frozen in the ice.  For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out.  Would a duck sleep that long to have ice form so thick it couldn't get out?  Crazy...

I don't remember where I read it, but winter time is when you are supposed to put out feeders because that is the time when birds have the hardest time finding food. Of course what I read was regarding regular bird feeders - not hummingbird feeders. I put my hummingbird feeder away just for fear that it would freeze and crack.

Here is a pic I took while deer hunting 2 years ago in Twisp of a bat frozen to a branch...the weird thing is, it was one of two that were within 5 ft of each other...

Cool Pic!
