7mm brass question
« on: January 09, 2015, 06:19:07 PM »
I have a custom 7mm that the builder worked up a load for. I got 50 loaded cartridges with the rifle and am slowly shooting them away. I'm starting to reload and gathering everything I need BUT I cannot find Winchester brass anywhere local or on the web for a 7 mm Rem. Mag. I have found some other brands like Norma, Federal , and Noslar custom that are backorderable. Will changing brands effect anything ? Or does anyone know where to get some Winchester brass ? Thanks Allen

Norma and Nosler brass hit the wallet hard but well worth the money.  Tighter tolerance's and longer life.  I ran into the same issue trying to find 300wsm brass.  Got my hands on some once fired Fed stuff from some great members on here and then finally found some Nosler Brass at a local gun shop in Cle Elum.  Good luck with your search.

Good luck with the Winchester brass, I'm in the same boat and have been looking for a while. Ask your builder which brass you could substitute.

The main thing with brass if you want shot to shot consistancy is to use the same brand. Some brands make brass that is more consitant than others. If you want small groups you will have the best luck if you stick to one instead of what ever you can get or have.

Hornady and Winchester weigh out the same and h2o capacity is virtually identical.  It has been more available over the last year.

So I should be able to substitute Hornady for the Winchester and not effect anything like group size , Accuracy or velocity?

That's my understanding but its been tough to find also. I had a line on some (hornady) and went back to buy it and it was gone........

Not a thing wrong with it this is the first loading. I'm just trying to get some more so I can have it loaded up.  I did find some 175 grain Winchester already loaded up today at a store. Might go grab a box or two and just shoot it to get the brass ( at least it sounds good in my head  :dunno: )

For anyone else looking for 7mag brass, I found 3 boxes of Hornady at Sportco today and left one.
