Very nice buck. Try wrapping the bases with saran wrap or tinfoil before you stay dying the skull.

Beautiful blacktail! As has been said, try wrapping the base of the antlers with saran wrap, tin foil, or like me, the over achiever, I did all of the above plus capped it off with e-tape.  :chuckle: It worked so well I was able to preserve the bark on the base of the horns.

Take it to Charlie.
I had a Taxi do one of my older big bucks. It was Dec 31 when I shot him, so his horn fell off when hit dirt naped. Taxi put skull rack and all into the boiler. Minus the horn that fell off. Looked terrible.

Charlie color matched it....
I am out of the states right now or I'd post some pics for ya.

Where is the 4X5?  That's one heck of a 3X4 with eye guards...so where is the BIG one?  Must be an eastern transplant :chuckle:  Just funnin' ya...dang fine buck you got there!!

I've had taxis do some amazing work on antlers to preserve exactly like they were in my pictures.  They could probably do a good degrease on that too while they are at it.  And it shouldn't cost you an arm or a leg!

The first thing you need to do is soak. The head in soda water to nutrlize the bleach. I have big 2 point that sliped into the bleach water . Now the horns are starting to flake at the bases. It's being repaird and mounted now.
