Some times it's not the photo but the content of the picture ;)

That's some beautiful country and a great shot. How much weight can Gus carry? Does he forage around on his own or do you need to bring pellets or compressed hay? Also do you worry about Cougars? Not really interested in getting one just curious about him.

In his peak years I had him carry 80 lbs for a couple of miles. They do forage, and I do bring alfalfa pellets. For cougars, when I am not around and he is tethered the goats will have dinner bells on to warn cats, bears, dogs, people...

Wow!! 80 pounds is a bunch of weight!!! He looks like a really nice animal! I bet he is also very sure footed and can go pretty much anywhere that you can.

When I saw that photo last month I was torn between the trophy goat and Gus. Really a nice photo and it means something because of your little story that went with it.

I sure like Sooperflys sheep pic. The quail are right in there also. Of course anytime Pope submits it is going to be in the running. I can't wait to see his next entry....... So far, if it were me I think Sooperfly would get the nod.

I didn't get out as planned in January to take more photos.  I can't resist posting another photo of the WA state record california ram on the hoof...

Oh Man, What a great shot!!! He really is something. What do you think he will score? He is a monster for any sheep let alone a California. Thanks for posting yet another incredible picture.

Awesome pic pope! I don't think anyone will complain if you want to post more pictures of that Ram. Gus the pack goat doesn't look bad in his pick either!

If I had to guess I've scored it a few different ways but I think 182-185 is reasonable.  I found out the WA state record is 182 6/8ths from the Swakane in 02.  I would imagine he would break that but it's really hard to tell with sheep.

It looks like Swakane will be closed in 2009.  I hope the fence gets started this spring as scheduled!

Not to Thread jack here...Ramslam and Pope what is the feeling with dropping  the Mt. Hull permit to 1.  I know WDFW bios are trapping bighorns up there and giving them to the Colville tribes do to damage issues up there.  Then they take a permit away?  The tribe will propably still want there sheep permit too.  Logic behind these decisions?
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!
