Best sights for my T/C .50 cal Xr?
« on: February 13, 2015, 11:16:40 PM »
I took off the stock fiber optic sights and put on a Williams peep.  I had decent shots with the sight, it felt better than the stock sight but, it seemed the target was in the center of the circle with just a feeling of when to pull the trigger.  Not as confident like a cross hair lining up with the target.  During the late muzzy deer season I fell on my sight and bent it.  So, I'm wondering, what is the best sight on the market in your opinion?  Thanks

Nothing better than the Williams peep with stock fiber front.  Depending on your load it can be sighted easily to 180 yards.  When I get home I will add an illustration showing how I use mine.  Amazingly accurate with practice.

thanks, would like to see the diaphragm.  Do you line up the front pin in the center of the ghost ring?  I was thinking if I replace the bent peep with a new one to put the front sight on the bottom of the ring for consistency?

Always center the post....your eye will naturally do it.  There are a few sight landmarks I use when taking longer shots, though it is just reference as your eye will naturally center the post.  There are many studies that support this.

That is exactly what I thought, I guess it's just having confidence that it is centered.  It feels centered most the time, the last time I took it to the range I didn't do so well.  The time before, it was real accurate.  I probably just need more practice, I also just want to make sure it's the best sight to have on a gun that I will be hopefully using for a tag that I've waited 19 years to draw.  Thanks for your help and I'm wondering if others have any other opinions.

Here is my set up, I am assuming the same as yours.

I shoot 110 grains pyrodex with 250 or 300 grain Shockwaves.

The last picture shows my holds for my ballistics using the 250 grain bullets.  For anything past 100 yards I use certain landmarks to make sure everything is squared up and centered.  When I look through my peep I can line up the bottom of the peep aperture with the screw hole on the front site.  The screw hole on the front site will look like a horizontal line that is slightly curved.  When lined up my front post is centered exactly....and this is just confirmation for again my longer shots.

Everyone's eyes are a little different.....so play around and figure out what works best for you.

Hope this is helpful.

thanks, I need to get the sight ordered and do some more shooting.  Doesn't seem to be too many other sights recommended.    I use 100grains of xxx7 pellets with a 290 grain bullet.
