Nice pics some folks just do not know what they are missing by just going back there and enjoying the surroundings

Maybe a silly question, but does anyone know why that area is not full of elk?  It seems to me that it should be.

They don't want them there.

I scouted in there quite a bit in 2013. Saw some great bucks before season. Hiked in over ten miles for season and got totally corked by the 20+ horseback buffoons that wandered all over the area for the first two days. All the Bucks went to heavy cover but we did end up getting two out of four tags filled. I hiked about 20 miles one day and it definitely seemed the higher and farther I traveled in the less deer sign there was. Gorgeous country and I want to head back in this summer.

Should be able to access by early June this year I would imagine if the weather continues. I went in in late June and had knee deep snow back a couple miles and up on top.

Beautiful. Looks like it (should) be loaded with elk. Hope to make it in there sometime.

Not that I know of. I don't know of a windy pass in the paseyten.

I thought it looked like Windy Pass as well. Windy Pass is on the Iron Gate trail.

Scenery from some of my hikes in...

It's not all 'about the hunt'.  Hiking in the summer is different than the fall. Being there during a storm.. That's an experience. Remember that in any alpine area the weather can change at a moments notice.  Some say that the Pasayten creates it's own weather.  Believe it! Go prepared.

I thought that pond looked familiar!    ;)

When I hunted in 2013 the weather swung from upwards of 70 to below freezing overnight. Had bluebird days and then rain with 40 knot winds and then 6" of snow then back to bluebird and 60+. A lot of weather to plan for.
