How loud are those Cabela's generators?
« on: February 18, 2015, 03:38:28 PM »
We just purchased our first travel/camp trailer and I am looking at generators to run the power when we are at hunting camp. I know what many of you are gonna say.....get a Honda or Yamaha. And someday when I am made of money I will do that.  :chuckle:  I see these 3500w ones from Cabela's at a good price and they seem to have great reviews so I am wondering from those that may have some experience with them about the noise level. My research shows that they are slightly quieter than a vacuum cleaner. Is this overly obnoxious in the woods or a campground?

I'm pretty sure they're from Champion. OK quality, but loud. If you're going to have electronics running off it, get one that has an inverter. The power from the innovator generators is much more stable and doesn't damage electronics like the non inverter units can. If you look around, I bet you can find a 2,000 watt unit for only a little more than the price of that champion unit.  2,000 watts ran my entire travel trailer, including the air conditioner.

Yes, that's the one.

I saw some in the General Store the other day for what seemed like a decent price. I am not in the market for one, so I didn't pay them a lot of attention (actual price, brands, etc), but it may be worth looking into.
There is something just indescribably painful about being stuck behind a prius on the interstate.

I have checked a few pawn shops but that great of a price on one yet. Some of you other guys missed the part where I said I can't afford a Honda. Unless your willing to pitch in for it.  :chuckle:

I own a champion 3500/4000.  Tractor supply has great prices.  There are 4-5 different models of same unit.  I bought the model with RV plug and 220/110volt.  It is great on gas, runs my 27tt with ac flawless.  Tank of gas runs average 10+hours easy.  68dbs.  I barely hear it inside trailer and its under slideout when raining.  Not quiet like Honda but still the quietest regular style genny I have been around.  3 years old and not a lick of trouble.  I paid 299 when I ordered it.  Built my own cart/wheel kit for it.  Trick for camping is too build a box to sit over it with end open for exhaust using 2" pink dow foam board and duck tape with a weight of some sort.
MAGA!  Again..

I have one of those yellow champion generators in 3500W from Cabelas.  Bought it for when the power goes out in the winter.  I've had it two years, ran it probably 250-300hrs, and have nothing but positive things to say about it.  Starts first pull every time, keeps our freezer and refrigerators going and allows us to watch TV when the power is out.  I've never heard a honda, so I have nothing to compare it to.  It's somewhat noisy I guess, I can't hear it when it's outside and we're inside our house though.
