This is a little late getting posted due to computer issues. The 2014 season I drew the Multi Season deer tag and put it use. I didn't get much of an opportunity to deer hunt the early archery or muzzle season. I got invited by a co-worker to go East for a chance at a Mulie so I accepted and went. I have never been to the eastside to hunt anything so I had no idea what the terrain was going to be like, and had no opportunity to scout the area. I was going into this cold. The guys I was hunting with this was their area and they know it well. We got up their and set up camp the day before the season started. They gave me a little tour of the drainage we were going into from above on the road. As the daylight turned to night I tried sleeping but didn't get much due to the new hunting experience I was about to get into. Day 1 Saturday, I head out only to be disappointed. No bucks. Seen a couple if does. I put on some miles checking this area out. First thing I noticed no brush like the west side. I liked that making it easy to move through the timber. Day 2 Sunday, I went a little further. As I start working my way down the hill I jump 3 deer. 2 were does and I did not get a look at the other. So I continue down the hillside. I make it about 40 yards when I can here some rustling down belong me. The way the hill drops off I can't see anything so picture Elmer Fudd walking through the timber that was me. I am carrying my gun across my arm as I continue moving down the hill not ready and as I get to the edge where I can see down the hill a massive 3 x 3 with eye guards is standing 30 yards picture perfect broadside. I am trying to get the rifle ready (when it should have been if I was on the ball)
he bolted. Along with Him was a 4 x 4 with eye guards another smaller buck and a bunch of does. I went after these deer but there was no catching up to them. I couldn't believe how fast and how far they went. I have caught to blacktails before these guys weren't having it. Days 3,4,5 were uneventful seen does and small bucks nothing legal. Day 6 I decided to go back to the area I messed up on and as I work my way down the same hillside I see some deer. Look through the bino's and I see a small buck. He's a small 3 point. I ranged him out at a little over 100 yards. I had a little bit of buck fever when I decided I am going to shoot this one. Well I missed and watched Him run of. At this time One of my hunting partners was working towards me so I started making my way to him when I got about 60 yards from where I shot and The 4 x 4 and the big 3 point were bedded down. I was about 60 yards from them and they stood. The 4 x 4 was the closest to me and I brought the rifle up put it on the target and let Him have it. He was a great first mulie. Beginners luck was defiantly on my side. A big shout out goes to Jim, Mikki, and Joe for inviting me along and to Jim for helping me pack this guy out.
