Taxidermy of Safari #1

Yesterday, Saturday, was like Christmas all over again, only this time it was the taxidermist making the deliveries.  This past year, Feb 27 - March 6, my brother and I hunted in South Africa with Kido Safaris, it was an amazing adventure and a great hunt.  Then yesterday the taxidermist, Jim August in Portland OR, delivered the mounts.  I was happy to have the mounts back in less than a year from the safari and very happy with the job Jim did.  Now, I'm aching to get back there for safari #2.

Dale, there are plenty left running around, you should take Tara and go hunt there.  I did go a bit over budget, but even the last day I was still seeing all kinds of critters that we hadn't hunted and that I'd like to go back for.

Dale, there are plenty left running around, you should take Tara and go hunt there.  I did go a bit over budget, but even the last day I was still seeing all kinds of critters that we hadn't hunted and that I'd like to go back for.

I want to go to the South Pacific again before I go to Africa and unfortunately Tara doesn't go anywhere that you have to fly. Looks like you had a great hunt, those are really nice photos and trophies. Everyone says you can't go only once, so I'm almost afraid to start.

I'm sure that like most anything it depends on who & how it's cooked. I'd say the kudu was my favorite, but all the food was very good.

We got very lucky and were given an auction hunt that covered a big part of the hunt. Get this, my brother's friend, knew a guy who won an auction and couldn't go, that guy (maybe a dentist) turned the hunt back and said if it went to a first-timer to Africa he was just going to give it back. My brother's friend told us about it and since I was raised to be polite, I just didn't have the heart to say no. It is expensive to go there, but with planning and shopping around, it isn't too bad if you look at the overall experience. Taxidermy and some extra trophy fees did blow my budget. If anyone knows of a freebie for second-time safaris goers, let me know - I'm still too polite to say 'no.'

The pig is from Texas. My son's college friend is a Texan, we were down there a couple years ago and they said we could go shoot a couple of wild pigs and .......... you know me, just too polite to say 'no.' After looking at this post, I think I'm a lot luckier than I used to think.
