Florida Fishing
« on: February 23, 2015, 08:09:40 AM »
Flying into Orlando and going to be staying down by Melbourne.  Anybody every fished with a guide down there?  Inshore/offshore doesn't really matter, just looking to catch some different kinds of fish.  Thanks for any info.

Danny

Farther south and I could help you out greatly...  Check on Bloody Decks for some guides on the Florida page...

I'm of no help, but I'm going down next month on the 18th for 7 days, so if you find a good guide please post up

A buddy went with this guide a few years ago.  Said that he was pleased with him and got into fish and guide worked hard

I've done some amberjack and grouper out of Tampa. Were I in Orlando, I'd be bass fishing for sure. I think a 12-15-lb largemouth would make your week and it should be spawn or pre-spawn around that time.

I lived in Jacksonville in the late 80s during my early years in the Navy.

Cool fishing ops everywhere.  For salt water locally, I'd focus on Redfish in the Intercoastal Waterway for a good eating fish ((ICW) perhaps called the Indian River there, but I believe that is farther south).  Lots of Speckled Trout in there too - a local favorite that is very pretty but worthless for fighting in my book.   Perhaps Jack Crevalle and smaller Bluefish which are some of the best fighting fish you can find anywhere in that area. Prepare to have 75 yds of line stripped out while you just hold up your rod and laugh your ass off.

Ladyfish are really cool, they seem to be a very small version of a Tarpon, something like a pound or two, but jump and jump and jump on the line.  Really cool.
I think there is Pompano off the real beach (Atlantic) all over that area and Kingfish is basically a big Mackerel that everyone chases offshore if the timing is right.  If you had the time, I'd head to Islamorada for some of the best flats fishing in the states, or cross to Tampa/Clearwater for some Tarpon or Cobia.

I've got no names for guides, but you should be able to churn up a few good names by some research on Google.

Enjoy!

I have fished a lot in that area. I'd make the drive to Jupiter and find a guide out of there. Fishibg is ten time better out of that inlet and the stream is within a mile of the beach
