Get ready snaggers
« on: March 04, 2015, 10:12:53 AM »
 :chuckle:
Wdfw is proposing a maximum of 48" leader on nisqually, skokomish, and puyallup river for salmon fishing to reduce snagging that has gotten outa control.

I usually use a 5-6 foot leader so looks like I will have to shorten it up. But if it goes through at least I won't see the 10-12 foot leaders like you do on the skok anymore.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

I thought for sure that offdahook would start a threading whining about this rule like he did on every other fishing forum known to man.

I saw some 12ft leaders being tossed up at the Cascade for springer's a couple of years ago. It's amazing how far those flosser's will drive to ruin some good egg biters.

I can't cast more than 48" anyway.  I'll never make it as a flosser.

I've thought for a long time that this should happen. I'm surprised it's taken this long. Some guys are going to have to learn how to actually fish.

That's the hard part, they have to learn to fish.

I was talking with one of my guys at work and he had the balls to tell me, "I use a 6 ft leader but I don't floss or snag".

So.. in ultra clear water I run as long and small' a leader as practical. It may certainly be 6' long. So I'm a snagger?   I don't think so. I'm disgusted by those that do. There is certainly an art to snagging. And while a long leader certainly helps a snagger, a long leader does NOT mean that you're catching fish that have been flossed/snagged.

So... I'm a fly fisher with a 9' leader, (as is common), cast upstream with a floating or sinking line, retrieve slowly through the hole or rifts above a snag/rocks just so my fly tails or is directed to the edge of that holding area.  I'm snagging?

So... No one here has ever tied a Vibrax to the end of their mainline? No leader?  How long is that leader?

I generally support the intent of the law, but I see a few issues with it:

Why only those rivers?  Not a concern? What about the Cowlitz, for example? Better if it were universal imo.

Lures/baits without an attached weight would be totally exempt (because they never floss or snag fish)

As mentioned it would put a serious crimp on fly fishermen if it applies.

They could implement this rule Aug-Nov, then nobody would have the right to complain...except snaggers.

Those who have been at Minter creek during dog salmon season know that there is no fixing to snagging  :chuckle: The rope that goes in front of the pool with big sign "NO FISHING BEYOND THIS POINT" and people still casting into the pool says it all . But wait ,those are most likely russian who can't read ,right ?
I had to look it up ,so here is definition of a FLOSSER  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flosser ,but according to the wiki flossing is done by 10-25' leaders and fish is hooked from the outside to the mouth .....
I suggest the WDFW prohibits bottom bouncing altogether and we fish bobbers only . Fair enough no need to have lawyer translate rules when ,where and what you can do . Let's do all rules statewide , all the time , and fishing rules bible will be 8 pages long instead and no guesses . :chuckle:
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?
