Any F150 Ecoboost owners on here?

Wondering how you guys are liking these trucks?  Are they living up to your expectations?  Any motor issues?

not personal but a friend has one, about 18 months or so, says he has never gotten better than 14mpg, but likes the power.

We run 2 at work.  Wont buy anymore.  Mileage is not what is advertised and the power isn't as impressive as we had hoped. 
Very nice trucks otherwise, comfortable and a nice ride.

Reports from customers are pretty much the same.
Not as great gas mileage as they expected. They do good if you drive them like your grandma drives. They do good on the highway. Keep the turbo's un-spooled and you'll do better. You'll probably see 2-3 more mpg's than the v8's I'd guess.
Early ones(2011) had some intercooler issues. Aside from that they've been solid mechanically. They run really nice and smooth which is nice. Quieter and smoother than the v8's if that's a factor. The v8's are nice and smooth running too though.

I've got a '12 Crew Lariat.   Ride is great and tons of get-up-and-go.   Tows really well too.

Only downside is fuel economy.   I average right around 16 with stock wheels and tires.

Reviews seem right in line with what I have read and heard from the few people I know with one..  At this point I am more concerned with quality of the truck.  The concept was excellent on Ford's part, power when you need it and fuel economy when you don't, wish the would have delivered better.  On some of the f150 forums the range seems to be 14-19 on stock set ups, that's a heck of a lot better than my Hemi!

They really need to add a hair dryer to the coyote in the new f150! I have driven a ecoboost a bit andit was alright... felt about like my chev 1500 for power. Seems around same mpg also.

I've gotten about 17mpg over its first 25k in the last year in the 14' ecoboost that I have for work. I like winding the turbo up while getting on the freeway!

Brother in law has a Raptor, they are sweet... and if the Eco boost arnt really getting that great of fuel milage might as well get the big v8. 

It smooths out all the bumps right about 50mph.

Nice looking, nice riding, lots of room(super crew) 8mpg pulling a single snowmobile on a open two place trailer!

Salesman at another dealership told him if you plan on hauling or towing Forget it.  IT will do it, but at a great cost on fuel.  After the fact, it was to late then.

The stock ones do just fine... I think 60mph over corn stubble and feeling like your riding in a Cady is proof enough... Apparently they jump pretty good also... At least that is what one of the other farmers said...

I can imagine when they get some miles on them those turbos will be failing since most ford owners don't maintain there rigs .

I have a 2012 F-150 Lariat SC With the Ecoboost in it.  My previous truck had the 5.4L V-8 that I personally liked better.  Gas mileage is not as good as my 5.4L either to the tune of 1.5 m/gal less avg. It is very quiet though and without doing any exhaust mods it doesn't sound very Manly.

I have a 2011 F150 4x4 XLT with ecoboost. It doesn't have ALL the bells & whistles, but it has 45K miles on it and has been a good truck. I put over-size tires on it because the stock tires seemed too small - plus I wanted more tread. Nothing has broken, no shop time except for oil changes. I did replace teh stock air filter with a K&N unit. I bought this one new and hope it lasts as long as my 1985 did with the straight 6 and 4-speed in it. I got over 350K miles out of the last one during the 18 years I owned it.

With the over-size tired, the speedometer/odometer is a little off, so the mileage will read lower than it actually is. My computer shows an average of 17mpg, so it's probably really more on the order of 18.5 or so. My guess is that if I took it to someone who knew what they were doing, the electronics could be tuned to change the torque curve to where it needs to be for the size of time I have on it. I forgot to mention that I took off the resonator and increased the exhaust diameter aft of the converter. With all that said, I'm not too hard on my vehicles and tend to take good care of them. Mine is a farm truck used to haul 1-2 yards of gravel, sand, soil & such. Also hauled a motorcycle from LA up here a while back and hauling the bike on the same trailer I use for soil at 70mph, the mileage dropped to about 15.5 on the computer. That was probably more like 17 in reality. I don't think that this engine/transsmission/rear-end/suspension combination was meant to haul a camper - even a light one. I think the wind resistance would be hard on the engine for a long haul at highway speeds. A little smaller diameter tire would work better for getting the torque curve where it needs to be unless the ignition timing and electronics could be tuned for a particular application. Also, a better exhaust system might work better, too.
Well, that's my  . Not going to knock anyone else's ride. So far I don't have any complaints as she's done everything I asked her to do so far.

Pink panther its hard to beat the torque and longevity of the inline 6. I dont think your new truck will beat 350k...

I always get a kick out of the "economy of a V6" stuff....

it's still a full size truck, so it takes the same power to move it down the road...and a gas engine must run at a semi constant A/F ratio....especially when under load. It's even more ctirical when under boost!!

the only thing you can do to a gasser to raise it's efficiency is raise the compression ratio...and well with pump gas, this can be probematic.

You can pull weight off the truck...i.e. Fords new aluminum 2015.  700 lbs lighter should equate to .75 to 1 mpg or close to it.

You can reduce rolling resistance and put highway tires on in the summer.

They have already taken advantage of lowering rpm's with gear ratio and 6 speed transmissions

Not much left to do but boost the hell out of them......, which most manufacturers are doing with various engine /vehicle combinations.

There still aren't a lot of longevity problems showing up with the 3.5 ecoboost and there are some high mileage versions out there.

a friend has 140k on his and i know that there are others out there much higher, I am monitoring for the next purchase.

I have a 2012 F150 Ecoboost crewcab 4X4.  I get about 17 mpg.  I also have 82,000 miles on it. 
1. I can sleep in the back seat during hunting season as the back seats fold up to expose the floor. 
2. I have never had a problem with it.
3. If I can keep my foot off the gas I can get 19.x mpg.

if mileage and towing is any concern, don't know why anyone would get anything other than a diesel anymore... 3/4T 4x4 stump pullers, 19+mpg, tow anything, 2 door, 4 door, long or short bed... pick your brand.. its all good....

my chev 5.3 got 13 mpg towing a car and trailer back from walla walla. If i was towing anything heavy (car, boat, etc.) Regularly like each week to the lake or something like that it would be a diesel all day long. Sure a half ton will do it fine but why not make it easier on the rig?
That said i dont tow much maybe a car a handful of times a year and dump runs etc. So my half ton gasser gets fhe nod. The ecoboost is a cool engine and does what it needs to well.

I have a 'project' F-100 (2WD) in the yard that my father-in-law bought new in 1969. I call it a project because I have a certain set of objectives for the new/old truck. It was used and abused for some 40+ years before being parked - awaiting rejuvenation. It came stock with a 360 cubic inch FE big block and C-6 automatic transmission in it. If the block is still good, it'll become a 390 when it's finished. The C-6 will either be traded for something useful or recycled. The new/refurbished truck will be built mainly for towing a boat while packing a camper on its back. That's a lot to ask, but these trucks have been doing it for a lot of years. With modern parts and a little creative budgeting, I should be able to get another 40 years out of it assuming that gasoline will be available like it is today.

The reason I brought this up is that it was my intent to buy a 3/4-ton or 1-ton new truck in 2011 to do all tasks from being a daily driver for commuting to hauling a boat and camper. Well, the truck I bought cost about $30K and the 'do everything' truck I wanted cost around $50K+. High end, deluxe versions went for upwards of $60K. I figured for the difference of $30K I could put that into the '69 and have two 'new' trucks. Needless to say, the new 2011 is NOT up to the task of being a 'do everything' truck. It is, however, a lot nicer than either the '69 or the '85. It's a better ride, quieter, gets OK mileage, has enough power to haul loads of less than about 3000 pounds. I'm sure it's capable of hauling more, but I haven't pushed it yet. It came with the trailer towing package, so that's a good thing. I try to take care of my equipment no matter what it is & that includes our vehicles. Yes, the new (2011) truck has done all I've asked of it & never failed or even stumbled. I can't say a single bad thing about my truck. It reminds me of trying to choose a single caliber rifle to accomplish all tasks. So let's see if I feel the same way after 100,000 or even 200,000 miles if it lasts that long.
I'm sure that no matter which brand you favor, there are things that can be done to either have more power or more economy, and possibly even both at the same time. An improved exhaust system would be one of the things that should do both and there are probably some other things, too. Nitrous sounds like fun  .

I bought a '13 F150 Lariat crew last August with 8200 miles.  Both the wife and I have been driving Ford diesels for the past 20 years and they're both getting long in the tooth.  Mine an F350 crew 7.3, 6 spd. manual with 287k, in the woods, hers a '92 F250 supercab, 7.3, 5 spd. manual with 215k.  Both have been awesome trucks.  We kept both trucks for the heavy towing.  She pulls horses.
This 150 is amazing to me after so many years of diesels.  It's the first vehicle since my '67 Camaro that will burn the tires.  If you want to pass something, just step on it and you're gone!!  As said the mileage is nothing to write home about, about 16 day in and day out.  I towed about 6000# behind it from Glenwood to Woodland via the USFS roads and the mileage dropped to 8.2.  Still love it.

I was really curious on that weight and what the mileage does when towing.  Do you have the 3.5 or the other motor?  Went to the dealer yesterday and was looking but they all had the 2.7 Echo Boost and no 3.5 Echo Boost were available at that current time...

I ended up buying one.  Love it!  2012 FX4 Ecoboost Supercrew with the 6.5' bed.  15.5 MPG in town so far but I haven't even used a full tank.  Love the power!

I have been thinking on getting a gasser we are going to sell are trailer this summer and i will only have the boat. Usually only tow to local lakes. Once in a blue moon to wenatchee area. So i dont need the deisel anymore. So the 5.3 would be the one to get?? maybe i will go test one out.
