It sucks that all the classes filled so quickly. But I am very glad to see such a large number of willing volunteers!

The conversations to which I was listening indicated a large number of the volunteers were using this as a scouting opportunity. No kidding. They see no problem in eating those elk. Gives me the Willies just thinking about it.

The area I got I don't believe there is any hoof disease yet. But it sure will be interesting when we get out there if we do find some limpers. I may go scout it out ahead of time so I have an idea where the herds are located before the actual day of our survey. (I'll be in 660)

"Update: Volunteers for hoof disease study
Due to the high level of interest, WDFW has now filled all available volunteer positions for its upcoming survey to determine the proportion of elk in southwest Washington showing signs of hoof disease. The public can still help the department monitor the disease by reporting limping elk on WDFW's website."
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.
