Tractor Suggestions
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:20:51 AM »
Ive got a small farm here in Idaho and it is time to get a tractor.  I am looking for a used tractor, under $10k.  Primary uses will be grading driveway, garden prep, cleaning animal bedding out of the barn, moving big hay bales and 1000 lb grain totes, brush mowing, and some light ground prep for the pastures (spring tooth rake, disc, etc).  There are a bunch of options out there and I am not sure where to begin.

I do know it needs to be a 4x4 and have a PTO.  The rest is all new to me.  Any help would be appreciated, any brands you like and dislike are appreciated as well.

Thanks

I would say look around at where you live. are there more green tractors or red ones... Go to auctions... how big size wise are you looking? In the basin there seems to be lots of older tractors that would be great "hobby farm" tractors that are easier to repair and don't have all the emissions, electrical crap that most newer ones have...  If there isn't some kind of size limitation on the rig you may be surprised what an older 2wd bigger tractor can do for work... especially if you pony up for new tires.  :twocents:
