12-24 season?
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:33:08 PM »
Just wondering how confident you guys are that this years season is going to change to that. Heard lots of rumors it is and I needed to put in my vacation time before it filled up. Im hoping it changes since that is what I requested......

No one will know for sure for another month or two. They are still having meetings on it but those are the dates they seem to be talking about. Others on here I'm sure will know more soon I hope :)

There are no other alternatives listed in the proposals, so I can't imagine they would change it at the last minute. If the early archery elk season were to be changed from what is shown in the proposals, many other seasons would need to be adjusted as well. I just don't see that happening. Not only that but I don't believe I've ever seen a proposed season not be accepted and finalized by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Heck the pamphlets are probably ready to be printed, if not already printed. The meeting to adopt the proposals is less than two weeks away, and the pamphlet usually is posted online within a week following the meeting. So with time being so short I really don't see them changing much of anything. The only thing that's uncertain at this point would be the possible new baiting rules. There are four possible options on that, one of which would be status quo.

Which ones Bob? Figured they would just have to adjust some of the special draw tag dates.

Well, for one the early muzzleloader deer season, which they moved back to accommodate the later archery elk season.

Bobcat, what are the four options for baiting? Like you said one would be no change, Im assuming another option would be no baiting period.  What are the other two options?

The finalizing meeting will be in Moses Lake next weekend. Thus far there have been no arguments against the new dates and lots of support for them. I expect to see those dates stay the same.  Remember,  the new start date will be the Saturday after Labor Day and not the 12th every year: that's just the way it works out this year.

Baiting by youth, seniors and I believe disabled hunters with a 10 gallon limit at the bait site is one option and a 10 gallon limit for anyone is the other option.  Plus the complete ban.

I don't believe status quo or no change is something they are considering at this meeting as an option unless enough people show up and say that is what they want, then it becomes an option right then and there.

I have seen that happen before so it is possible if a few people show up and voice their concerns.

As far as the 12-24 season that is better than what it was previously.  I would rather see a set date of the 8-21 rather than the floating date they are proposing.  Under this proposal it will be the 12-24 for this year because that is the way the first Saturday after Labor day falls but each year it will change so it is always on a Saturday.  I guess that is nice for the weekend guys, but when I go I hunt all week no matter when the opener is.

I can start whenever so if it helps to always have it on a Saturday that is fine by me, kind of like modern deer season I guess.

I am just glad that the start date is later.

I actually much prefer having it NOT start on a Saturday, because I will take off the first 2 days of season regardless.  Less pressure for my first crack at it if it starts on a Wednesday :)  However, I do like the 12th for a start date this year :)

Hunt is all I do, so I always take the whole month off from work. If there's no season going here, then you'll find me in a remote drainage in Idaho until there is one here.

Me too, but I think we may be in the minority and most would prefer it start on a Saturday every year.  I am just glad that it is a Saturday later in the month. I believe the 12th is the latest Saturday it can be based on how the holiday changes.  I  wouldn't want it much later than the 12th for the area I hunt.  Things get really good around the 14th and then everything goes into lock down, all herded up and more interested in keeping what they have than exploring more options.

Am I reading it correctly, 602,603,607,612, all do not have an early archery season the next three years? I must be missing something . :dunno:

Looks like just replacing the way it was written so instead it says 601 through 618.  They would still have seasons.
