The top one looks like claw marks above the peel/rub. The small tree in the second picture maybe a deer rub. I actual got a sense that a cub did the smaller one. I think these two were next to each other. I hunted huge whitetails all my life in Kansas. NEVER saw a rub on a tree as big as in a couple of the pics I posted. I should say RARELY. but still I do not know anything about blacktails. Other than that there racks are smaller.  tup

Have. Question. About a sound that is foreign to me. It starts out as a dull thud followed by thud thud followed by thud thud thud followed by thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud. I no that sounds weird. The other way I can describe it is similar to when you spin a quarter on a table and how it eventually wobbles and falls down. Imagine doing that with a circular disk of wood. I have heard this sound each time I have been out and each time on multiple occasions.

Bigfoot trying to sound like a grouse drumming, what else could it be? :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno:

Pretty damn good description of the grouse drumming sound though.

Neither one of those trees were damaged by a bear.

Walked about 12 miles today. Found a shortcut on a trail that was forgotten on Wyco map and not on the Garmin either. Highlight of the day was four mole rats or shrews. Found one. Then another half eaten a quarter mile away. Then two side by side a half mile down.

Anybody know where I can find some bear sign?

We went to Dryad and then up Kobe Road and tried to access 550 today and the gate had a couple locks but the permit lock was not there.  I couldn't figure out how to get the gate open.  Am I doing something wrong?  Thanks

The gates I went by today are all still locked. When they open them they will be locked open

Thanks for gate information.  I thought they were opening them a week early.
