I have he SW 360PD. While its not fun to shoot full power loads out of, its very manageable. Also surprisingly accurate. The guy I bought it from, complained about how bad it was too shoot, but again it's no worse than any snub nosed .357. A big part of the unpleasantness is the muzzle blast. I believe the LCR comes in .357 now as well. Generally not as accurate, but less expensive.

Yes, the LCR comes in .357 but it’s slightly over a pound.  The Houge grips really tame the recoil; it is not particularly unpleasant to shoot.

thank you for the input.  very interesting and informative.   now am thinking about a lite 9 mm.  reason is I am not a big guy and don't like to be pushed around by excessive recoil.    have a couple of big friends that are very interested in the lcr and the bodyguard 38.  mike w

Pistol shooting technique has more to do with felt recoil than physical size. I've seen much smaller guys handle and shoot heavy recoiling pistols better than me, and I'm 220#. Whatever you decide, try and go shoot a buddys first.

I've got the S&W 340PD.  It's a great carry gun but with full house .357 feels sort of like a firecracker going off in your hand.  It's really meant to be carried a lot and shot little.  I would recommend it as CCW but you'll probably want something else too if you enjoy shooting much.

To be honest any ultra light CCW in a major caliber is going to be a handful if you plan to shoot it often...
