We install a lot of ST Maxx on crummies. Those guys are hard on tires. We usually pull them off around 40,000 miles. Very few punctures considering 90% use on freshly graded logging roads.

Thought I would do one more check in on these.

The tires are great! The bad road manners were due to low inflation, the guys who mounted them only had them in the low 40's. Once they were up to good pressure they drive great and hook up in the snow and gumbo mud very well. I drive my truck daily on gravel and in mud, highly recommended!!

Good to get some opinions here. I'm presently debating between the STT and the ST Maxx in a 285/75 16 for an 89 F250 ext cab. On one hand the STT has great traction, but I'm wondering about highway use and longevity. I've heard they're pretty decent for a traction tire. The Maxx seems like it might be better on highway and snow and ice while still being good enough in the woods....

IMO for a mostly over the road vehicle even a 4x4 you much better off getting an AT and purchasing good link chains. youll get better on road handling, wear and puncture protection... the down side is less off road traction... BUT if you own 4 chains that makes up for the less traction for the 10% of the time you need it.  :twocents:
