Killled more deer with a Ruger 243 using 100g factory ammo than anything else but I love shooting my Rem 700 in 270 130g factory ammo.

Win model 70, 26" heavy barrel in .308. A good all around round and military caliber. If, for any reason the stuff hits the fan, I will always be able to find ammo. I use the High Sierra 168gr. boattail hollowpoint. The same as match ammo used by the military. I have killed 7 of my 8 deer with that rifle. Zeroed at 200 yards for the wheat fields. I can lay down a 4-5" group from a bench at 200 yards. It is almost like shooting a laser beam. A good scope with mil dots and I am hunting with a sniper rifle.....ooooooohhhhh, that's bad............

My fav is my 7mm-08 with 140 grain Nosler Accubond handloads at 3000 fps. A deadly deer pill. I also have a 300wsm that I shoot 150 grain Hornady InterBond handloads at 3200 fps but it is really just overkill for deer. Better for canyon blasting though.

06, 7mm, 300wm, 300Ultra, .243, etc., etc.  What ever I am packing at the time.  For now if I am in the open country it would be the 300Ultra with 180's.  If it is in the brush then a 06 w/150's.  Both Partitions.

Nice thing about the .270, the .308 and the 30-06 is that if you are in the middle of nowhere and realize you forgot your ammo or you didn't bring enough, you can run down to the nearest gas station and pick up a box.  Can't do that with my .300 Weatherby.

I used to shoot a rem 7mm Mag with 175 grain federals but they wasted way too much meat. Now i have been shooting a weatherby chambered in 257wby Mag. It shoots extremely fast and flat and with the factory loaded 120 nosler partitions it only destroys minimal meat. good bonus to the cartridge is that i shoot 87gr bullets for dogs and i only have to carry one rifle. So far it has done a great job on everything i have shot from black bear to big mule deer, dogs and groundhogs. Very well rounded caliber but a little expensive on ammunition.
You will never kill a big one if you spend all your time draging out little ones

.270 wsm with 130 gr. ammo for deer.  i used to use a .243 with 100 gr. ammo though, and it worked fine.

I sure enjoy reading what all you guys shoot. There sure are a lot of different opinions out there, and some of the same old stand-by's. I usually shoot a Win. model 70 in 7mm. rem. mag. Sometimes for blacktails I carry a Ruger 77 Mtn. Rifle Safari in 30.06, it sure is light and short.
