looking for birds for dog training- pigeons, chukar or quail

I'm looking for birds for dog training. I am not able to raise birds myself but could hold onto them for a couple of days before training. I will be looking for a semi continuous supply but nothing high volume.
Most likely around 5 a week or more.

I live in Lake Stevens and am also looking for birds!  Perhaps we could make a larger order between the two of us or ??  I have a new pup coming this week.  I'm looking forward to getting out training.

What kind of pup do you have? How old?

Adding another Britt. He's 8 weeks old. The last two dogs I trained in Illinois where it was no problem to find birds. This will be my first in WA.

I have a 7 year old German shorthair and a one year old drahthaar, it makes training together allot easier since we both have pointers.

I would catch my own, if you have either accessible bridges or a farmer/county utility storage sheds in your area. contact them, gain access, night with long handle fishing net and bright flashlight.. pretty easy actually. The county was very happy for me to get rid of them years ago, stops them pooping all over the equipment. The bridges same, night when they are roosting. It is totally legal. No permit or license required.

Are those 4x4 lofts? How many birds do you put in each loft? I'm just getting set up to keep my own birds for training and hoping to raise enough to sell a few. I was thinking around 6-8 birds per 4x4 loft.

you can stack em in ... I have 12" square boxes inside just off floor to ceiling like a mason jar box on side. They all use them easily 20+ in there.. recall door, allows them exercise return access.. biggest trouble is with hawks and eagles when they are out playing. They hatch several times a summer. by winter, I hunting season, I am singled up on the houses, training with the rest. be careful not to use up all your females!

Cool I need to get something figured out my neighbor lady has someone with 15 racers that is getting older and can't take care of them any longer. She said I can have them for free. I plan to breed with them and train with the young they produce. I only have one dog I will be training so I don't think I will need to many birds. But this will be the first pointer I have ever trained so I'm not sure how many birds it takes.

If the racers home you can get a lot done as long as you don't start shooting them. Steady to wing and shot does not require dead birds until later in the game. Retrieving, if you want the dog to do that, that's another story.

Buy a remote launcher or two if you don't have any. Lion Country Supply and DT Systems sell them for a "reasonable" price.

you can dizzy them or sock and string for steady point n flush. they will home just fine, until that hawk figures out the store is open...

then I keep them cooped up for a couple weeks to eliminate food source.

I'm hoping to just head tuck them for awhile $400 for a remote launcher just seems crazy to me. Are they that much better than the manual launchers.
