Thoughts on late entiat archery permit
« on: April 22, 2015, 01:38:12 PM »
I am trying to decide where to put my 11 quality points towards as far as deer goes. I want to do an eastside mulie unit and would go rifle but I will be in Montana the week before Thanksgiving so I wouldn't be able to hunt the prime part of that tag if I were to draw it. If I don't draw a permit, I most likely won't hunt deer here so any weapon is fair game. I am undecided on whether to go archery or muzzy and if I go muzzy, Entiat would be one of my choices. I have talked to a few guys and just a little apprehensive about "burning" my points on an archery tag because of the lower success rates. Thoughts?

Im going archery this year i think. Only 4 points going in. I am looking at either the desert sept hunt or the chilliwist for my choices. Never hunted any of them so really dont know.

Depends on what you are looking to get out of the tag. If there is the necessity of killing something to feel that you aren't "burning" your tag, then archery is not your best bet.

If you can feel fulfilled by all that hunt has to offer, then yeah, that late archery tag can provide you everything you are looking for. :twocents:

Agreed. I guess it is a little of both to be honest. The nice part about the montana hunt is that I am pretty confident that I can hold out for a mature deer and if all else fails, I can kill a meat buck the last day or two. With that being said, I would like to have a decent chance at a mature buck but it isn't paramount. I would be fine with just having a quality hunt too. I know that didn't fully explain or help much but that is the best I can muster.  :chuckle:

Archery hunt is where it's at  Even with 11 points your chances of a rifle tag aren't that great. Also I don't believe Entiat offers a late season Muzzy tag but I haven't looked at the regs too close for this year yet either.

No it doesn't. If I went muzzy I would look elsewhere and probably up north of me.

Talk with et12468535895337987, he seemed to express a great time with his late archery tag. So much so that I put in for it.  And I did that just to lower your chances a bit.

11 points give you a pretty good chance at a late rifle tag.

It does but I will be in Montana for the last week of the permit so I would only be able to hunt the early portion. If it weren't for that hunt, I would go rifle for sure. That is where my predicament stands

I'd only do rifle w that many points, if u can't go, I'd ghost point it this year.  I also have 11 but I will be putting in for one of those units, rifle of course!

What predicament, I saw several quality bucks hit the dirt before the 14th last year, last several years for that matter.

If things go as planned, our Montana trip will be an annual thing so I would continue to run into this issue every year if I ghost it. I know, first world problems.  :chuckle:

FWIW, a Washington permit hunt has better potential for a trophy buck than that Montana tag is going to give you. :twocents:

I think you guys almost have me convinced to go rifle and if I happen to draw it, just hunt it before I go to Montana. Sorry trophy, might be battling one more guy with 11 points.  :hello:

No way would I put a OTC Montana tag over a Washington Quality tag, which I had to do last season myself.
