My Eyes ,, My Eyes !!
« on: April 23, 2015, 06:50:25 PM »
I have been in this chatter room a few times , and have noticed in some pictures ,( not mine of course, sorry ) that some of you guys are about my age or are feeling the road at about the same pace anyways. I was wondering if your only as good as your eyes are ,with a bow . When using glasses you cant see the pin and level so ,forced to go with out, well at 56 years young and out practicing today ,I noticed if its out of my site so that I cant pinpoint a spot at 35 to 40 yards Im in trouble and my son needs to take up hunting before I starve ! you see lewis when fighting cancer you don't eat the trash in the stores it has hormones in it and hormones are like steroids to cancer growth , so im very limited , in that stuff.Anyways , anybody got any good input in this eye thing,Hey lets not get to worried here im still hitting the targets pretty good but I do see some inconsistanceies in focusing, anybody else ?

Most likely going to have to limit the distance you shoot.

Have you considered using a kisser button so you don't have to focus on 3 points? You put the front pin on the target and away we go!!!

CRyder, I look "through" the peep and the pins, only look at the target but with both eyes open. My farsightedness is so bad (strong glasses) that I can't focus on both near and far. Hope this helps.

I feel I am in the same boat except for being 25...... Over the past 5 years I have noticed at least my left (shooting eye) is getting worse every year. I have to now shoot with both eyes open and when I am in say shade and the target is in full sun it makes it very hard to focus. I practice a lot so still feel comfortable shooting out to 50 yards but is getting more frustrating that I can be more consistent out to 60 because I cant see the dang circle on the target to shoot. I can not shoot with my glasses at all. I think in the next month or so I am going to go to the eye doctor and try out contacts and pretty much only wear them when I am shooting my bow... This could possibly be a solution to your problem as well if you can deal with putting in and taking out contacts which I am unsure if I will be able to. I plan on doing lasic eye surgery in 4-5 years so hopefully that solves my problems as well.

I think you need a different eye doc.  I can shoot fine with glasses bot instinctive with my long bow and with my compound.  Well at least I see good.  Shooting, well that is more of a bad form issues at times.

Make sure you tell your eye doc what the most important reason you need to see for.  If you have a good one they will dial you in.

Its mostly just uncomfortable to shoot with my glasses. Probably in part because I hardly ever wear them unless I'm watching a movie haha.

Shooting with both eyes opened (using your dominant eye) is recommended anyway. :dunno:

But speaking of shooting in the shade I have recently noticed that my pins are no longer sharp dots but rather short blurred vertical lines.  I guess I need to try shooting with my glasses (that I rarely wear) to see if that takes care of the problem.  Sucks getting old. :P

Thought this was another Hillary thread.

What size peep are you shooting?
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

They have prescription strength peep lenses that will help you see your sight pins if that's what you need help with, or there is also magnifying scope lenses that will go on your sight to magnify your target 2-4x (might even have stronger ones) .. I have seen a few people with vision problems use these or a combination of both. :)

Hey wait till you need bifocals  ....can't get the pins and the target and the level to all be in focus...have to do a lot of head bobbing  :bash: definitely sucks getting old....I usually shoot a long bow so no sights to worry about, but man that bifocal thing...makes you hold you head just right....

I did get 2 pairs of glasses this last time, one with the bifocals and one without....helps a little but still a pita! And out hunting, sheesh :(  this being Washington, you can't keep the rain off....I've thought about the lasik, but pretty expensive and not sure I'm even candidate for it.

Oh well, it just makes me have to get closer....
Even Duct Tape can't fix Stupid, but it CAN Muffle the Sound

You can't fix stupid, BUT it can be numbed with a 2x4...

Had glasses all my life until 12 years ago. I'm your age and Lasik was the best investment I ever made!!! Still have to wear reading glassed but everything else is 20x20...

I believe there is a sight out there that does not require a peep. you might look into that also.

Well first off thanks for putting me in a more seriouse light, this is just going to sound like im even older , but here goes ,what is a  kisser ? seriousely ,and this magnifying thing sounds good but is it legal. I know putting a go pro on a bow is a no no  but I wonder about that as well , also I have already got a appointment with my doctor next month , he actually was a bow huter in Sweedan he told me so I have big hopes for that day but he allways goes a littlte deep into the financial backing part of life and this time of year I have other concerns, like anybody got a trestand I can get for les than the price of a hunting licence and tag ,and draws and permits you know all the priorities in life, anyways I need a hanger if you don't .Thanks so much for the ideas guys , and o ya ! GALS ?

Cryder, I had to go to contacts in 1991 because I had trouble shooting the bow. This has helped me to this very day. I used glasses and they did not work for me when shooting the bow. Contacts may be something to look into.
